I'm trying to play a purchased commercial .mid file where the solo should be a flute on Track 9, Ch 9, but comes out with drum sounds.
Have tried adding in a 74 (flute) Program event on channel 9 on Events list to play as a flute, it continues to play the instruments as a drum track (mapping the notes in the fliute sole to random percussion and drums...). I've also tried moving the track and channel around, forcing it manually to 74 etc, still comes out as a drum track. Ideally, I want to use the 74.2 Flute Exp in VSC patch, but I'd just be happy to have it play a standard GM Flute.
Any assistance or advice is most welcome.
Running PT 2021 (4) on Windows 11, Ryzen 7 CPU, plenty of RAM etc.
Update 14 March - added 3 photos. Note I have stripped out all the meta data, the only one I put in was the Pragazm set up at 74 Flute

Siggy. in addition to rharvs great advice please could you post 2 pics. 1. a pic showing page 1 of the events editor in ptw. so any embedded overrides can be checked. sometimes midi creators embed certain control events. 2. a pic of ptw "CLASSICS VIEW" showing channels and events etc. classics view is very good at showing trak midi info...and overview. ive always found classics view v usefull.
If you created a Program Change for channel 9 at 1-1-0, and the MID file contained another one at 1-2-0 (or even 1-1-12) ,, you'd end up hearing the one from the MID file since it reverted your change. Try inserting a Program Change in the middle of the song and see if it works there .. if so, you know the offending one is occurring earlier in the file.
Make your sound your own! .. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome
