I've been successfully producing kids music using BIAB for over 20 years now. And in that time I've never missed an update, finally going whole hog a few years ago with the Audiophile option. (which is really worth it, BTW)

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLy6-72NzYpFztbJ7jNEMkg

BIAB is a simply amazing and indispensable tool. Especially of use to me have been the folky, bouncy styles. The one style that I've used the most, but which needs a major upgrade is the Rehearsal Piano which was produced by PG Music way back in 2010. The timing is a bit wonky, and the audio quality is dated and not up to par with the pristine newer styles.

I would LOVE to see a full style set of Ragtime, early jazz solo accompaniment piano in multiple styles, tempos, and feels. Think Piano for silent movies. Mister Dressup and Mr. Rogers-ish. And the cornier the better! smile

Thanks for reading and I hope some other users will get behind this idea to gain a little traction.

Cheers, and many thanks to PG Music for this superb program.

There are many useful older MIDI styles that would benefit from an update. Solo, rehearsal, ballad, march are some of the styles that come to mind.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

If PG Music is looking for an artist who does this, I have a friend who does this genre. He knows his stuff - he's a copyist for Hal Leonard, performs piano for silent movies, and is a fine jazz and classical player too. He's amazing.

Hey Tobin, thanks for getting back so quickly!

Mr. Dressup

Various Hal Roach tunes:

Ragtime

Basically early jazz with simple left hand and not overly sophisticated voicings. A little bit of "stride" would be nice too!

The current real styles available in this vein are all from 2009 and 2010

RT1097: Piano, Acoustic, Rehearsal Waltz Sw 085 , Miles Black
RT1096: Piano, Acoustic, Rehearsal Showtunes Sw 085 , Miles Black
RT936: Piano, Acoustic, Rehearsal Waltz Sw 140 , Miles Black
RT940: Piano, Acoustic, Rehearsal Showtunes Sw 140 , Miles Black

I've used these styles probably more than 100 times in various arrangements. BIAB has come a long way since those early Real Styles days, so I'd love to hear styles like these, but with better switching, improved audio quality, more variation, etc. Another problematic foible with these styles is that all the shots and holds are in mono, while the main arrangements are in stereo.

And finally, if it's not too greedy to dream big...

Some simple classical piano styles would be very useful. Waltzes, marches, early barocque period etc.

Hi Chris, thanks for the examples!

For the classical ones, youtube examples would also be very useful, keeping in mind that, while classical piano pieces would of course have specific melodies, the best examples would be ones that could sort of be "shoehorned" into chording-only styles.

Agreed that classical styles are very dependent on melody. What would be nice to see is a revisiting of the original "classical" BIAB midi styles that came out 20 or more years ago, but with "real" tracks.

PNOSIMP4.STY.
PNOSIMP3.STY.
SATIORK4.STY.
ORKALB34.STY.
ALBERTI.STY.
MARCH_16.STY.
CHOPIN_W.STY.

Etc.

Now that BIAB's horns are sounding so good, it would be great fun to see a library of Marches a la Souza. With clarinets, trombones, trumpets, military drums, and glock.

I would rather have MIDI styles updated to utilize new Band-in-a-Box features like microchords over the suggestion to replace older MIDI styles with RealStyles. RealStyles and RealTracks have their place but so do MIDI styles.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
