My old Focusrite Saffire 6 USB has become very temperamental,
so I'm looking for a replacement. Priorities are low latency and stable drivers (Win10). Only need two inputs. Any recommendations?

Regards,

Bob

I dunno, if you only need 2 inputs, maybe a 2i2?

Have you tested the cable being used (swap it) to see if that is the culprit?
Only time I've had USB problems with a Focusrite was due to the USB cord, not the device, so thought I'd ask

I've had the same experience as rharv and would recommend doing what he said.

Oh, yeah. Cables are cheap. And relatively fragile.

90db..

Here is a list of usb sound devices i started that lots of pg users have contributed to
ie..their interfaces that work with pg software.

https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=635707#Post635707

Lots of interfaces.
I would rent first , which is what i do , if you can.. to ensure all is copacetic with your pc /rig etc. my music store lets me rent for 30 days to test.
Lots of you tube vids also on how good certain interfaces are.
One series i like is julian krauses who does very detailed objective reviews.

https://www.youtube.com/c/JulianKrause/videos

I happen to be fan of audient. If were me i would look closely at the audient id range,
And motu M range and the new volt series , as well as ssl interface.
But there are lots of options.

Best

Thanks. I will try that. The real problem seems to be the drivers though.

Bob, have you seen this?
Quote:
There are two variants of the Saffire 6 USB - one is a USB 1.1 device and the other is USB 2.0. To check which variant you have you can reference the serial number on the underside of the unit: if the serial begins "SU" then you have the USB 1.1 variant, it it begins "S2" then you have the USB 2.0 variant.

Saffire 6 USB 1.1 is no longer under development support, meaning we are not able to provide any further updates to support macOS Catalina or future versions of macOS or Windows. Saffire 6 USB 1.1 will continue to function as normal on macOS 10.14 Mojave and below, the latest version of Windows that Saffire 6 USB 1.1 was tested on is Windows 10 build 1809 - you may experience problems with your Saffire 6 USB 1.1 if you update Windows beyond this version.

Saffire 6 USB 2.0 is supported on macOS 10.15 Catalina and Windows 10 build 1903. Please continue to check on the compatibility status of Saffire 6 USB 2.0 before updating to future operating systems.

FWIW, some years back I bought a first generation Scarlett 2i2. Since then I've bought a Solo, an 8i6 and a first generation Saffire Pro 40.

They've all performed well on both Windows and Linux, though the second generation Pro 40 has issues on Linux as the chip maker (TC Helicon) wouldn't release support information for OpenSource use :-(

Jazz relative beginner, starting at a much older age than was helpful.
Kawai MP6, Korg M50, Ui24R, Saffire Pro 40.
AVL:MXE Linux; Windows 11; Win8.1: Scarletts
BIAB2022 UltraPAK, Reaper, a bunch of stuff.

Bob, have you tried these drivers?

https://www.neutechcomputerservices.com/f/focusrite-saffire-6-usb-windows-10-driver.html?msclkid=6ce6fdc6ad5411ecba806c44e4f04486

Note I have no experience with these, I just found them on the web.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

64 bit Win 10 Pro, the latest BiaB/RB, Roland Octa-Capture audio interface, a ton of software/hardware

Thanks Mario; I've tried those drivers. I just ordered the MOTU M4, for my birthday next month. Should solve the problems.

Bob

An update:

The MOTU M4 took me from a Focusrite driver nightmare to MOTU Audio Heaven. Latency??? What "latency"? grin

It just worked right out of the box, which has not been my experience in the past. Plenty of gain, excellent monitor output.

To add to that, the M4 comes with a package that includes Digital Performer Lite, so I now have another DAW to play with. cool

Regards,

Bob

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
