Hi - This is a new style for me ... Classical Folk I am playing live nylon classical guitar and piano lead parts, I used BIAB for Bass, Strings, and some piano backing tracks. I also added Midi strings, Oboe, viola, cello, and violin parts. I wrote this originally as a lullaby to my baby son, a Father and Son Journey thru life. Let me know what you think. https://www.reverbnation.com/kaynemusic/song/32800788-journey

Hello Elliot. The vocal reminds me of Jim Croce and that puts you in good company. Very well written and produced. Enjoyed my listen. Thanks for posting. Rob4580

Classical? I think you might get away with baroque pop. There're some aggressive transients in your vocal that are counter to the intent of a lullaby - you should address those - it'll make a big difference. There're quite a few clicks n clacks besides the expected string noise of a mic'd classical. If you're using Reaper you can use ReaFir to fingerprint those things and remove them without to much aliasing. Some nice touches in the arrangement. Like many lullabys there's a spooky element in the narrative.

Maybe not classical but very good pop song anyway. Beautiful melody matches with the touching lyrics. Nice guitar playing and good vocals. I enjoyed also the orchestration, some string parts sound bit too sharp, but the overall mood is nicely soft for a lullaby.

Very nice Elliott! Excellent vocal and the guitar part are performed with precision! Lovely song with a super chorus! Vocal reminds of some of the folk rock greats of the 70's for example Croce, Cat Stevens, Chapin etc. Great Job! Thanks, Torrey

I wouldn't call this classical. I would call it an excellent pop song. Excellent nylon string guitar playing, orchestra backing, and mix that complimented and excellent vocal. Your lyrics were also very good.
This reminded me of the songs from the late 1960s were orchestras were incorporated into pop music.
You did an excellent job on this song.
Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up. Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Lyrics are sooo good. Love it all, Elliott. So many well-crafted pieces, just like the journey you sing about, and some masterful playing and writing. You sing of one of my most cherished journeys. Thank you.

I was heavily influenced by 60s-70 Folk Rock, and Jim Croce, Paul Simon, John Lennon, so I am flattered by the comparison ... Thanks
I originally wrote this as a Classical Guitar music only piece on my old nylon string. It evolved by adding lyrics and orchestration and using BIAB and other tools.

Great song, well sung. Your vocals always sound a bit too forward for me, but nobody else mentions it, so maybe it's just my ears.

NEW REMIX - I recorded the beginning acoustic guitar parts, changed the string parts to a smaller quartet, remixed the vocals.
Let me know what you think of this verison

Love the lyrics and the overall sound. It's very reminiscent of the Jim Croce era, which is ingrained into my soul.
I wonder about the panning/delay effect of the vocals. I find it distracting.

I really like the song. Your guitar mic sounds like it might have been a little hot on the intro and ending, as though I can hear you breathing. What I liked about that though was that it was as if I was in your living room listening to you play. It gives it a personal feel. It may be just me, but I kind of liked that. Good guitar work too!

Nice - the sentiment of the music wins me over, even though I'm not a fan of the "stuff lots of words into notes" style. I think the high strings are too loud - see 1:14 and 2:03. A bit of reverb would also help move them to the back and place them a bit better in the mix. I'm not a fan of the bass sound, which has some sort of DI/piezo sound going on. Knowing where to fade a song is tricky, and I think the bass could be faded a bit earlier. Despite the fact that the instruments are well separated in space in the mix, it feels artificial. Maybe some reverb/ambience would help with that. Anyway, nice song!
