Where do you guys land on the look of a guitar? I know we all have preferences or there wouldn't be so many options. I don't like any metal flake finishes. I also don't like tortoise shell pickguards like what comes on so many Fender guitars. In fact I told the story here about the lengths I went through to make my Jazzmaster white on white. Also don't like any pearl finish pickguards. Can't stand them. I'm mainly a solid color guy! The exception is a sunburst. A Les Paul or a 335 in tobacco or cherry sunburst looks great to me.

Love to hear opinions on this.

This is my current guitar farm.

Only that one blue guitar with any fade on it.

I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.

1. How much did you make in 2023?
2. Send it to us.

I'm fond of the original finish on Janice's 79 year old D-18. smile

Interesting topic (for me anyway)
I have a couple guitars that I love the finish on, both strats; one blue, one black.
However I also (a LOT) of years ago bought a Steinberg bass .. a bright shiny red one.

After a few years I got dis-enthused with it.
So I tore it apart, stripped it down and stained/polyurethaned it.
Now it looks like wood ..
like an old beat up bass, and I like it better now.

Never had an issue with the sound of it (very unique) but I like playing it more after doing this.
I'm not recommending others tear apart their gear and try to refinish it, just commenting on your question.
Weird how that may affect people's perception of an instrument.

Like J&B, I also like the look of a well worn instrument.
Something about it, like Jaco's old bass, or the Thunderbird our bass player had in Chicago .. just somehow looks comfortable and ready to go smile

This is the sort of thing I normally buy. Actually, I normally do not want any pickguard but just how this guitar came.

This is a bit "out there" but I kinda like it.

Truth is that the look or finish is the last item on the list of requirements. The guitar has to play and sound great and if it does that it could be any color or finish.

I keep thinking I have a preference for plain black guitars, but most of mine have ended up being some version of red.

As long as it's not tacky looking.... and that's obviously the opinion of the observer...... One guys tacky is anothers wow!

Most of my guitars are burst of some sort.....or were. My SG has been redone after it was stolen and dinged up pretty badly on the last one. It's now a natural finish with clear poly. My tele is a factory tobacco burst that is killer.

I have a wall hanger that's solid red and totally unplayable due to a bowed neck. It looks good hanging there. I might experiment one day with slide on it, tuned to something other than standard, due to its string height.

My old electric is a true ship of Theseus, having been reconstructed to the point where the only piece of original equipment is the tailpiece. Its name is Synesthesia and it is (or was) a Harmony Stratotone. I acquired it in 1967 and destroyed it in 1969 during a fight with my mother, smashing it on the floor in a total Townshend which left me with shreds. I got a new neck, upgraded the machines and electronics, and re-formed the body with pressure and Elmer's glue. It used to be wood-colored, now the finish is generic hardware store black spray paint.

mostly indifferent to what they look like.
some shapes (flying v for example) don't do much for me.

Intonation is important as is neck feel
From there its mostly the body/pickup tone quality.
Acoustics are slightly different but its mostly about playability and tone.

Too many pretty guitars over the years that ended up in a case in the closet because they played like cardboard boxes.

I'm down to 5 now. 4 players and a MIM tele I'm experimenting with different pickups.

Since Mark showed his Frankenstein, I'll show mine
She's old, battered and re-built, but if I am asked to play bass, this is still my go-to (battered as she is)
A shiny new one won't likely change my mind .. <grin>

You can hear her here (try typing that with no typos)
http://bobandbarryshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Put_It_Out2.mp3
/My performance was less than stellar (on both guitar and bass), but you can hear said bass anyway, I think it has a pretty nice sound
//new/shiny does very little for me, as others have said; what's it sound like?? (way more important)

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
