When I found out that Dm7/G is G9sus4
I just wanted to enter G9sus4 in Biab, and it turned out to be G11
Does G9sus4=G11?

In a previous thread you actually changed that setting yourself:

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Is this correct?

Yes. Sus in BIAB implies sus4.

In music notation programs, you may find it either way. Each program has its own conventions.

You will find this progression written often. It may be:
Gsus resolving to G
G7sus to G7
G9sus to G9
G13sus to G13

I have checked display sus as sus4
But I input G9sus4, it still shows G9sus

That is to say, it means whether sus4 is displayed or not, in short, sus is sus4?

These really confuse me, if there is a keyboard, it will make me sure right or wrong lol

Matt, correct me it I am wrong but a G9sus (or G9sus4) is G-C-D-F-A but technically a G11 is G-B-D-F-A-C is it not? I know that most of the time one leaves out the 3rd or 5th of an 11th chord. I know that most guitarist play a Gsus as, from bass to treble, G-B-D-G-C-G, which technically is a Gadd11.

Swingbabymix, this is not meant to confuse you. I'm just trying to find out if what I was taught is right or not.

I don't know if I understand correctly.
Later, when I see that the ending is Dm7/G, I can just write G11 directly in BIAB? Or write something else?

Mario, I didn’t worry about that level of subtlety since the original question was a simple Dm7/G. I agree with you, if you are going to write an 11th chord G11, it means you want that C as the lead tone in the upper register. I never really understood the BIAB checkbox.

Swingbabymix, why not just write that chord as Dm7/G using the slash bass? It’s probably more recognizable that way to more musicians anyway.

And yes, in almost all cases sus = sus4. Let’s ignore the one exception of the questionable sus2.

We do also have a recognzied chords list that goes over what chords can be entered as well:

While the original question looks resolved, I thought this may also help people figure out how to enter in other chords they are interested in knowing how to write in BIAB. smile

HI~

Because when I type Dm7----, Dm7/G----
Then I hit play in BIAB and I don't hear the sound change.

But when I write to G9sus, the sound changes. So I don't write Dm7/G

What I understand now is: no matter what is set, in BIAB sus = sus4
Csus2=C2

I am aware of this page. It would be better if there were included sounds in it.
Of course, the best way is to build a KEYBOARD that lets me see what notes the chord is. Hope to see it at BIAB 2023.

I don't understand this sentence.
Do you mean that in a chord progression, it's often written like this at the end?
Or in BIAB, G7sus=G7 ?
I'm a little confused. Did not understand the meaning.

I don’t think I will be able to help you further. Please don’t conclude I said anything other than what I actually said. No, G7sus is not G7.

thanks. You have helped me a lot.

I still have a doubt as to why "display sus as sus4" has been checked
But when I enter G9sus4, it displays G9sus instead of G9sus4
But when I enter Gsus4, then it shows Gsus4
Not sure if this is a bug?

A list of all the chords BiaB will accept is available and has been listed in another thread.

I have sus as sus4 also check. I also have n9sus4 displayed as n11. I can enter Gsus and it will be displayed as Gsus4. I enter G9sus and it is displayed as G11. I can not enter G9sus4 as my BiaB will not accept it. A sus chord is another name for sus4 so I do not consider that a bug.

Design a keyboard on top of the "chord builder". You can see which keys are included.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
