I have some issues with using Biab midi files in Kontakt. This is not my expertise, so I hope I am explaining it the right way. If there is a note on message in midi, there has to be a note off message, otherwise it plays forever. But if there is a Velocity=0 message, this is the same as note off. But if I use Biab Midi monitor, I see many Velocity=1 messages.
In Kontakt this seems to be a problem, because many notes are not ended. Is there a way I can solve this? Probably by putting velocity to 0. But how?
I have used BIAB with Kontact in the past with no real problems.
On the techinical side, you need to be looking at the note Duration (see picture). This tells the midi notes when to turn off. Otherwise, the general program changes (CC) definitions and actions should be functional, but admitedly better used in your DAW.
Here are my favorite definitions:
Modulation is a change of pitch. CC1 • Modulation is a change of pitch. • Modulation can be whatever the patch is set to perform. • Modulation can used to move between different sample layers. Play a chord with a string patch; move the mod wheel down, and what you'll hear is 1 sample cross-fading into another sample, until the quietest sample recorded once the mid wheel is at 0.
Expression is a change of volume. CC11 • Expression is whatever the patch is set to perform. • Expression isn't so much an overall volume control (that would be CC7) but a sub volume fader. This is useful for carving out dynamic changes, such as note fades, swells, crescendos, etc. • The benefit of using expression (CC11) over volume (CC7) for this purpose is that if you carve out those dynamics via CC11 and a channel is later realized to be too high or low in the mix, you can adjust the overall level of the channel.
Velocity is basically just Volume. CC7 • Velocity is a measurement of how hard you are hitting the keys. This can result in triggering different sample layers, but the most common result is the samples simply play louder. A practical example of velocity is triggering different samples of a piano played harder/softer. • A patch may be designed to produce different waveforms based on velocity--for example; a wind instrument patch might have a more aggressive attack at higher velocities--but this is still based on the idea of volume.
In that view it looks good. But not in my view in Window > Midi Monitor. As said Note off can be a Note off message or velocity=0 Otherwise the note keeps playing. Below a part of my result. The velocity=1 is causing problems. I think it is a bug. Opus has no problem, but Kontakt does.
198 7276 1 98 2D 00 Note On ($9x) 9 Pitch = A 3 Velocity = 0 199 7276 1 98 31 00 Note On ($9x) 9 Pitch = Db 4 Velocity = 0 200 7276 1 98 34 00 Note On ($9x) 9 Pitch = E 4 Velocity = 0 201 7276 1 98 37 00 Note On ($9x) 9 Pitch = G 4 Velocity = 0 202 7276 1 98 26 01 Note On ($9x) 9 Pitch = D 3 Velocity = 1 203 7276 1 98 2A 01 Note On ($9x) 9 Pitch = Gb 3 Velocity = 1 204 7276 1 98 2D 01 Note On ($9x) 9 Pitch = A 3 Velocity = 1 205 7276 1 98 30 01 Note On ($9x) 9 Pitch = C 4 Velocity = 1
I have found a workaround it in Reaper, so I can move on. In Reaper select all notes > Note properties > Off Velocity was blank, so I add 0 or 1 (or any value) and my problem is solved and I can continue with some extra work. So not marking this thread as solved.
Actually, I never used this view . So I am not sure what to make of this. I do know I have not in the past had this problem with BIAB midi in Reaper, but maybe something has changed.
I just I loaded up a Kontackt piano in BIAB and it worked fine on a MST. Will likely need a bigger mididiot then me to help any further. Good Luck
That is not true. You are right, velocity=0 is not the same as note off, but this message also ends the note in midi language. There are 2 messages used for ending a note, note off and velocity=0
Problem is solved by the way. It was a bug in Reaper. Bought the update and everything is fine now.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
