Mal. please read my last post befor reading this one.
more info.
Hopefully youve read my previous post. If still problems.. more possible reasons for your win wmp problems ie 'encountered a problem'. i dont want to confuse you by throwing too much at you but read following...
1..By any chance are you on the net while using your pc for music production ? And also using anti virus ? if so disable net and av and report back if this solves problems.
2.. Only other things i can think of are a corrupted wmp codec or if you downloaded the bb demos from pg’s site as part of the total pg package maybe in the download process something was corrupted. Did you run the wmp troubleshooter ? how did you purchase bb ? download ? or hard drive sent ? 3.. In addition search you tube videos re the win wmp message your getting . They might give added clues. ..
Thanks OM. I'll get back tomorrow, reading this in bed. I think we have the Atlantic between us. :-)
I don't use a BB drive. Everything is on SSD's. This is a monster of a PC and cost a small fortune so I have every faith that it will performas I expect. Just takes little me to get to know it better. I'm a humble musician, guitarist and vocalist. Not the worlds best tech savvy but I try. My mixing and mastering took me years to learn and I'm still doing so but it's the best way.
Fyi I used to sing in everything in uk from cathedrals thru heavy rock and everything in between. i'm an ex choirboy...lol. My cathedral music boss didnt approve of my rock gigs lmao. Yep we are in different time zones.
Please tell me if you addressed my last 2 post suggestions. Eg the cubase and sweetwater links.
Be aware even tho’ mate you got a kick a** pc , if it was bought at normal retail store in uk, …its not optimised for music production. Heres one company of many that specialises in custom music production pc’s. A uk company. Lots of good articles you can read.
my advice is take music pc off net and use a cheap clunker for net like moi. i would set up your music beast with 3 ssd drives. i recommend one for win, one for daw work and one ssd for sample libs. this is gonna be my new desktop with 32 gb ram. what are the specs of your pc ?
Anyhoo …lol….my wifey is buying me a new pc for my july bday. Rock on.
In order to get a complete picture of your daw rig…and after a good sleep… Please answer following.
1..When you originally used the pg installer to install bb and the real traks and demos and pg programs etc did you go with the default directory paths in the installer OR did you change them to your own custom paths ?
2..What pg package did you order ? ultrapak ? did you download everything ?? what delivery method ?
3..With cubase closed and ONLY biab open and forgetting playing bb song demos using win player…on first boot of bb when you double clik on bar 1 or >+...do you hear bb song play with one chord or say after you entering some chords ?
I think its safe to say its not the audient driver as we are both using the same ‘456’ version. Perhaps now you see why i asked for pics mate. Its helped me eliminate one possibility.
As i said one can have a monster beast of a pc…... ‘But’ if its not optimised for music production... (see many threads on forums like gearspace or the cubase user forum..)..sometimes problems occur. Which is why many studios often build their own production pc’s or use a company that does such.
I personally have always got stellar results from off lease refurbished pc’s whereby i get my “refurb guy” to optimise for music production. Ive had the current one 5 years running win 10, and nary one problem mate. it never sees the net as i said. ive done bout 90 songs useing it running biab/realband/reaper combo.
Best/happiness...give my best to blighty. i'm a hammers supporter..lol. om
Hi OM. Refreshed today. I did read your previous links. I always have Asio released in any application that allows it and I've always had exclusive mode unchecked.
1. I have the main BB program on my C drive which is 2TB SSD. Real Tracks on another 2TB Internal drive, also SSD.
2. I have everything PG has to offer, including Xtra styles and addons.
3. BB plays whatever style is listed from any previous opening of BB.
I have optimised my PC OM. I followed Cubase tips on fully optimising whatever gear you have. With 128 GB Ram Corsair Vengeance.
Ok thats a beast lol. Bet it cost a pretty penny. Congrats.
Gigabyte mainboards have a good rep. Ok if bb is playing on start up and generating real traks and real drums etc etc…thats great.
The only thing i can think of is if wmp aint working maybe something has got corrupted in wmp dir. I would get a qualified pc tech to check the wmp installation and codecs etc. wmp works perfect here...also try another audio program that relies on wmp.
Re your spec my vision isnt the best. so if using partitioning ensure that partitioning hasnt affected wmp functioning. I dont partition.
Ps out of curiosity realband has a test audio performance utility in the menus thats a rough guide to how many traks any pc will do. Mebe try it sometime. Best om
This also happens when you have a sample rate mismatch between your interface and Windows.
I have no problem with Windows Media Player.

BIAB. CbB. Mixbus 32C 8 HP Envy. Intel core i7. 16GB RAM W10. Focusrite Scarlett 18i 20. Various instruments played with varying degrees of proficiency.
thanks for commenting. kudos...great comment. i'm not expert in the nuances/inner workings of wmp. its just always worked for me.
i worried bout this aspect. and thus upthread i requested pics of various win audio recording/playback properties and advanced settings in the win 10 sound dialogs.
Never really tied Real Band. Tinkered with it back when it was 32 bit. I guess the plugin, which I love and use all the time, has been more useful for me. I may go back and play with it, now it's 64 bit.
Incidentally, I have asio working now and demos are playing.
I tried everything you guys have kindly suggested but I've no idea how I did it.
Guess I'm just good at FUMBLING through problems. :-)
You might want to save pics of all your audio and driver settings etc etc in windows itself including the advanced tabs in the win audio dialogs, and also the same for biab , and same for your audient settings and your cubase settings just in case you need them.
Re realband. Dont dismiss it. Take an evening mate and go thru’ the manual cos it has lots of deep features. Ie dont underestimate it just cos its free included. Just one feature i like is bars view that lets me easily move bars of midi around. Many other neat things in rb to discover.. You might be surprised.
Perhaps you might mark this thread as resolved in title.
