The Devil's Debutante on Soundcloud
The Devil's Debutante on YouTube

The working title for this one was Putin On The Fitz, because it was to be about a nobody-wannabe who rises to power through hate & violence, then throws a fit that kills millions. Sadly those folks are often called leaders.

I wasn't happy with the results and was about to throw this one in the maybe-get-back-to-it-someday pile, but then I asked Dave Bell (Blue Attitude) to play some guitar. WOW! It became a jam song. We played a lot of songs together, sometimes me on his track, sometimes him on mine. This was a case of the latter. Still it always amazing me how without contriving it, we often manage to blend so well together. So the solo and extended ending are the only worthwhile parts that remain. Fun jam, Dave.

Your comments and suggestions are always the best part of a song for me. Thanks everyone.

Style is ZZJAZZ.STY (Jazz Swing Style)

The Devil's Debutante

I saw the monkey walkin' in the shadows slithering through the trees.
His snake-like movements reflecting inner battles suggests the world he sees.
He is such a sight we could almost call him human, but not the kind we want.
He smiles a lot, but evil shines right through him, the devil's debutante.

He took the stage while keeping others busy, then took all that they had.
He wants to lead. What kind of leader is he? He's worse than merely bad.
He's not unlike so many of our leaders so power hungry and cruel.
This pyschopath won't tolerate the cheaters who break his blackened rule.

BRIDGE: The devil's debutante taking what he wants, and giving nothing back to us.
The devil's debutante taking what he wants, and leaving none for us in his dust.

There comes a time when good folks gotta gather to the dying pleas.
It's time to shine, and this time's gotta matter. The whole world needs some peace...
from the devil's debutante

Marty...you and Dave are "crazy" cool...so glad you didn't mothball this one...it's clever and fun but paradoxically sad but true...love the lyrics and meter and those leads by Dave and you are the cats meow! Super video (as usual) Where do you get your clips from? they are always spot on...really enjoyable and quite devilish at the same time...great job!

Loved this tune. That low register vocal was excellent. Very cool how the vibe changed back and forth throughout the tune. Daves guitar was excellent as well. Super lyric Marty. Basslines were pretty sweet as well.... Well done..

DEEP lyric and deeper voice...fanmazing!
Excellent lyric, an appropriately biting stack of lead work, a six feet under bottom end bass and social commentary to boot.
ACE!

Hi Marty and Dave
One time there are loose and fun songs from you
Then again something serious
And that's why it won't be boring with you ;-)
Class singing fits just perfect
Guitar solo of the finest
That's how it should be
Both thumbs up
Many greetings
Andi ;-)

"clever and fun but paradoxically sad but true"... That's cool, Dan. Thanks. The videos I get from pexels.com and pixabay.com. I won't assume you'll be back here to get the answer so I'll send you a message, too.

Thanks, Scott. When I heard that higher vocal only the song seemed even more bland, so I added the octave. No Melodyne was used for that guy. That's more my register. hehe And I even got to sing a note lower than a normally tuned 6-string.

Marty,
Serious and still so loose its winds up sounding like a jam, as you say.
Excellent lyrics and those guitar breaks are killer; the best part of all are those deep doubled vocals.
Going back for the video.

I knew your pre-title had a familiar ring to it (from way back when I was young):

Puttin' On The Ritz

Good thing you changed the title!

Interesting, somewhat uncanny video! And I immediately identified Dave's power guitar sound :-).

Absolutely!

What a great write, performances by you and Dave, mix and video we’ve got here, Marty. Those two vocals highlight your big range and that deep devil’s voice is perfect. We both looked forward to the video while listening on SoundCloud and we were NOT disappointed! The bats and the peace signs in Ukrainian colors were excellent.

Dave’s guitar and your bass are so good together and the little nuances are special.

Enjoyed it!

You've got to do PUTIN ON THE FITZ....I guess a spoof of Putin' On The Ritz!

Marty, you've got a great musical imagination! It's great to see you occasionally do something a little different from your normal type tune! You and Dave both did an excellent job with this!

Thanks, Torrey

Thanks, Robert. A 2-chord jam. Quite fun.

Thanks, Bob. Yeah, that was the pun, but it seemed more appropriate for a Weird Al Yankovic parody.

Thanks for your intent listening skills, J&B. Yeah, I was quite happy finding those Ukrainian peace symbols.

Thanks, Brad. That top guy just wasn't making it on his own, so I brought in the octave to give it a weirder sound, but, as you and I both say, the jam is the best part.

Sad and scary story, but fun implementation with some (peace) sign of hope. Nice rolling blues with enjoyable guitar and bass work. I really like those low vocals. Very creative collaboration. Thanks for giving me some ideas for my 'Putin' song...

Superb. Wonderful. It has hints of a distinct Russian sound, and more than a hint of parody of the character you sing about. The guitar solo is great, too - and your voice is simply stellar. What a song. Refreshing to hear a song like this, and you genuinely never disappoint, whenever I want to hear a song that is both quality and distinct from others. The lyrics complete the journey of what raises the bar, in this song, and sets it apart from more mundane others - the last verse, in particular, sums up the message of the song, I feel. Brilliant, genuinely brilliant.

You always have a great way with words, Janne. Sad & scary. Now I can't wait to hear your Putin song.

Thanks, James. That's cool you noticed some HINT of Russian sounds. The character is an easy target. I never met anyone like that, and don't know anyone who would want to be like that. You are way too kind, my friend.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
