Here's one for Dad in honor of Fathers Day this weekend.
Walk Your Own Road I remember way back when, back when I was just a kid,
me and some of my friends getting caught doing things we shouldn’t have been.
And when the police took me home, there was daddy with his bathrobe on.
He taught a lesson that I didn’t forget when he looked at me and said,
You’ve got to walk your own road. Stand straight and tall.
Carry your own load because after all,
when everything’s been said and done, you’re going to be the one
to reap exactly what you sowed. Son, walk your own road.
Now Daddy was a hero to me, and he was everything that I wanted to be,
so it left a painful memory when he went away.
But his words are with me still, and I know they always will be.
I’ve always done the best I can. And now, I’ve become my own man.
Cause I walk my own road. Stand straight and tall.
I carry my own load because after all,
When everything’s been said and done, I’m going to be the one
to reap exactly what I sow. So, I walk my own road.
Now late at night when it’s time for bed and we say our prayers,
I tell my children what my daddy said because after all these years.
I still think about him and the words he said back then.
I wonder what he’d think of me and the man I turned out to be.
But, I guess it’s all right now. ‘Cause in my heart I know somehow
that the streets are paved with gold where Daddy’s walking his own road.
You’ve got to walk your own road. Stand straight and tall.
Carry your own load because after all,
when everything’s been said and done, you’re going to be the one
to reap exactly what you sow. So, walk your own road.
Remember son, to walk your own road.
