Never Knowing Love on Soundcloud
Never Knowing Love on YouTube

Some say I'm happy all the time and such a positive person. When they meet my wife, Barb, they knowingly nod. August 3rd is her birthday, and this one's for her --and you all pf course. It's a small expression of the ineffable experience of being married to her for 44 years.

You always help me improve with some expert guidance, but please don't hold back if it's just an different opinion or preference you have. Your suggestions always help, and your opinions are always heavily considered, and I often learn important thing when I read your comments to others, too. Thanks so much.

Style is _QUASAR.STY (Quasar Minimal Modern Pop Ballad)

Dave Bell (Blue Attitude) played guitars and I did bass and sang. The sustaining F6 at the end was me on acoustic recording 2 different chord positions, both direct and mic'd resulting in 4 blended tracks for 1 chord. Sheesh. I gave BiaB one of these “F6...” but nobody strummed in search of the last chord.

Never Knowing Love

Once you came into my life I could never ask for more.
Until that day the best was out of reach I'm sure.
I never dreamed what life could be when shared the way you share.
You give it away in such a good way, and still have more to spare.
I never would have seen the sky in such a pleasing blue
I never would have known such love. I never would have you.

CH: Now I'm going to sing of love you gave my life that fits me like a glove
Your smiling eyes have saved my life from never knowing love.

Long before your smiling eyes have shown be what love means
my world was dark and I was lost alone it seems.
But you came along and freed my soul from such a twisted fate.
Now I see my life with you, my love, and know it's not too late.

Marty, congratulations on 44 years of marriage. I'm sure your wife loved this one, as did I.

Super vocal and lyrics.

The rhythm section was spot on and Dave's guitar was icing on the cake.

That bass wasn't to shabby either.

An excellent song.

Marty,
the vocal is ace...perfectly placed in the mix and room.
Dave's playing is, as always, in the service of the song but also terrific in & of itself.
You "did the bass" as usual - spot on.
This could've been calypso, reggae, country but is at home as a bluesy ballad.
The F6 was worth the effort.
My partner of 39 years (married for 37) has her birthday on 17th August. I'm not so bold as to write a song of/for her...for a start, she doesn't much like my music, has a better ear than me & I don't write sincerity the way you do.
In other words - excellent lyric.

Cheers

This is beautiful! Wow. And yes, it's a very positive song! Luminous and festive - perfect for a special birthday, or for an anniversary. Loved the video, too ... really clever imagery! Dave gives the perfect cameo, on guitar, but I thought that your writing and joyous singing stole the show. Well done!

“Once you came into my life I could never ask for more.”

That very first line had us hooked!

This is such a sweet gift for your sweetheart and a treat for us forumites.

Excellent vocals and bass, as always.

Dave’s solo was super and the RT’s and RD were a perfect fit.

The video was very creative. Janice loved the dream catchers and the rainbow and heart filled sky. The smiling eyes reminded us of your granddaughter too.

Enjoyed them both and happy early birthday to Barb!

What a beautiful tribute!

The chorus soars. Wow.

"I never would have seen the sky in such a pleasing blue
I never would have known such love. I never would have you." Those are my favorite lines.

I bet she cried after hearing this.

Sonically, that last chord doesn't fit. Have you tried making a BIAB guitar chord an F6 using Meladyne?

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

F6 - it doesn't resolve - it's not there to resolve - it's there to sound right and, in chord theory terms it floats, it's "says" the story continues.
This is where standard progressions lose me...people have become deeply invested in the road as laid out in the 19th C through submersion, cultural imperatives etc.
I think it was a fine choice, gives a slight The Beatles voice to proceedings and the fact that it pricks up ears is a plus.

Cheers

Great song written for a great reason. It's tough trying to put into words the way you feel about someone that means so much too you, but you've made a pretty good stab at it here. I'm glad that you've found someone to share your life that makes you so happy, and I hope she had a great birthday!

Thanks, Scott. Great feedback. I'm jumping ahead here a bit, but I like Ray's reply to the F6. [see below] But I know what you mean. The sound of that instrument was way too different than the rest of the song, but... It was weird that I couldn't get the BiaB players to sustain the chord. I don't have that version of Melodyne --just the monotone one. Hey, those are also Barb's favorite lines.

Thanks, Steve. I knew the last chord was sounding wrong, although I like the F6 for reasons Ray mentions. I would have preferred to get it right with BiaB, but I had to move on. My only other available option was to fade or something. Thanks for listening to the end, and your honest opinion. Much appreciated.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
