A song from my folky-mystical side which Scott agreed to embellish with his delicate guitar talents.

Which Dream

Which Dream

which dream
which dream will you choose

the dream of immortality
losing youth in vanity`s
lake of mirrors
hungry eyes of children look
flipping pages of your book
for an ending clear

waking you`ll know what to do
the mystery
is dreaming you

which house
which house will you build
the heart house shuttered up by fear
pictures whisper when you draw near
leave the door ajar
travelling by compass yearning
raising arches ever learning
where to hang your star

arriving you`ll know what to do
the mystery
is expecting you

which song
which song will you sing

the song played on a cheap guitar
ageing fingers cannot barre
the moon to impress
a voice with no boast or lament
your bones become the instrument
angels bless

beginning you`ll know what to do
the mystery
sings through you

which dream
which dream will you choose

Robert...very interesting and enjoyable...first off I think your vocals and harmonies were excellent...secondly I love the track...an acoustic dream if I might say so...I was reminded of Neil Young for some reason and with your harmonies maybe some Crosby, Stills and Nash along at times...you can never go wrong with Scott playing in the track...he is top of the food chain as a guitarist...I really enjoyed this...thanks for posting it...Dan

Robert

A lovely mystical folk song. Excellent vocals and harmony in a suitable folky backing with some nice guitar from Scott.
Could imagine Donovan covering this in the 60's.

Nice work.

Very original composition! Indeed mystical, but also slightly dark, like only you can do.

Your songs are always special, this is no exception. In this case, the Roy Orbison timbre is more audible than ever.

Robert, your lyrics are always so engaging. You write in a wonderful way of bringing out the imagery. Vocals are so good. Intricate and precise, interweaving and supporting. Scott, your guitar work is always so complimentary to the style. So well done guys.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Really intriguing gents! Love the feel, very soothing to be sure. Have you considered lifting the melody in the shorter sections of the lyrics?

I really enjoyed the lyrics, mysteries of life in a nutshell, keeping positive dream. Those images are really strong, my favorites: "the dream of immortality/losing youth in vanity`s", "your bones become the instrument/angels bless".
Harmonies are excellent, creating haunting feeling when voices are speaking around, sounds of gospel and African style, amazing work.
Creative use of BIAB instruments even without drums, beautifully flowing mood sits perfectly, that viola together with Scott's light guitar playing make this sound very original and extra-ordinary.

That`s very kind,Dan. I know my harmonies don`t attain the perfection of CSN&Y, but I`m glad this reminded you of them.

Rob,
I like to think the flowerpowerish feel of this is tempered by that darker side you noticed.
Thanks very much for your listen and comments!

Andi,
I`m glad you found the song interesting and heard Scott`s contribution.
Initially this was written with the idea of just the strings to embellish - I think Scott came up with some lovely delicate playing that fits the mood.
Thank you for commenting.

Robert, the first singer that came to mind was Art Garfunkel. He could have sung this one.

The lyrics are magical, brilliant write.
Super vocal, backing tracks, and mix.

Loved it.

Hi Robert & Scott

Mario said it pretty darn good. His Art Garfunkle suggestion is spot on. Your lyrics always paint such wonderful mindscapes. And Scott casn make just about any song better.

Very nice! And it's great to hear another one from you.

Robert,

"the song played on a cheap guitar
ageing fingers cannot barre
the moon to impress
a voice with no boast or lament
your bones become the instrument
angels bless"

You have such a unique and interesting poetic lyric style.
They transport the listener to magical and mystic places.
AND make one think.

Cool vocals and harmonies.
Cool BAND.

Scott's guitar is the perfect compliment (as always).

Much enjoyed.

For whatever reason I see a Disney movie when I listen to the song, would be a prefect film music in my opinion. You create images...

And I dig your harmonies, really good vocals!

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Oh my word. This is incredible. You are by far one of the very best songwriters on here. It really is an honour to hear your songs, thank you so much for sharing.

Lyrics, harmonies ... everything. Your gift for communication is incredible, and defies analysis and analytical description. The lyrics, for me, are so special here, that said. Some of your lyrics, at times, are a little inscrutable - at least for the likes of me ... I'd like to think that I understood the ones in this song, though.

Just as a "sample":

"the song played on a cheap guitar
ageing fingers cannot barre
the moon to impress
a voice with no boast or lament
your bones become the instrument
angels bless

beginning you`ll know what to do
the mystery
sings through you" ...

WOW.

I'd love to think that the mystery is indeed dreaming me. I hope so, anyway.

Thank you for your extraordinary sensitivity of the soul, and for sharing these inspired songs with us.

“the mystery

Yes!

A lovely folk song with mystical harmonies that gave us images of scenes from A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Scott’s dreamy playing was a great addition to the delicate fingerpicked guitar and the viola.

Dream some more!

Robert,

Wow what a fabulous use of those RealTracks! You melded together such a unique sounding backing! Love those complex (at least to me they are) lyrics. You always excel in that department! Love the vocals and backround vox. Nice touches added by Scott!

Thanks, Torrey

Amazing lyrics delivered by that hypnotic, quavery voice I notice someone here compared to Roy Orbison.

The line about bones and angels stood out to me as brilliant, but there are many good lines in this one.

Hard to believe, sometimes, the talent that is working on this forum.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
