♫ ♫ ♫ Rain Talking ♫ ♫ ♫

One of the activities available during The 50/90 Challenge is the opportunity to do random collaborations, where a composer and lyricist are paired off at random to create something neither one of them would probably have come up with on their own. Recently I volunteered to write music as a random collaborator, and was assigned a set of lyrics by my friend, Australian songwriter John Nicholson.

I started off by choosing the St. John's Songwriter Acoustic style (_STJOHNS.STY) and filled in the chords as usual. Then I used the BIAB DAW plug-in to import the generated and rendered tracks into Logic Pro X. Finally I added the rain effect, celeste and vocals, and mixed and mastered them.

This was the result, and I think it came together pretty well. I hope you like it!

Tuneslayer,
I have no idea who's singing, playing the melodic lead, or that odd high percussion thing on the left.
Lyrics would've been useful as well.
Information, such as those I mentioned, would help the listener and are recommended in the forum instructions.

The tag vocal comes in at a different, louder, level than the rest.
I think the whole vocal could use a little reverb to sit it in the mix better and some bvox would REALLY kick things along.

It is sad that your song has sat with no response for almost a week but, to be honest, the forum is busy and when you don't [*****] you won't get much tat.

Interesting approach, Tuneslayer. Good simple mix, and I like the suggestions by Ray. Man, I'd have a very hard time putting random lyrics to music. Well done.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thank you for listening and commenting Marty! I'm glad you like it.

And rayc, thank you for listening and for the feedback. Those are all valid points. I have to admit in some ways to being green as grass when it comes to doing music online, both in creating music (mixing, production, etc.) and the social aspects (promotion, interacting with the community, etc.)

The idea of giving attention to get attention is a valid one, and one I probably just need to make time for in my day. As for who is singing (me), playing the melodic lead (also me if you're talking about the celeste) and the like, can you point me to a post I can use as an example of someone who did it properly so I can use that post as a template? Thanks!

CL,
I am not a big fan of pressure write myself, as I feel it is somewhat stressful, but I applaud those who can do it. Easy going tune, probably suitable for young kids. Seems you had fun, and that is what matters the most. Thank you for sharing,
Misha.

That made me nervous just reading about the challenge. I give you a lot of credit for taking up the challenge and producing something. I thought what you ended up with is fine and I liked the metaphor of talking rain. The vocal is not sitting in the mix, and that is a big problem for my ears. If you can work on that and repost, that would be my recommendation. Again, kudos for taking on the challenge!

Tuneslayer, that sounds like a tough challenge. Congratulations on being able to complete the task. I agree with TuneMonger regarding the lyric being a little to hot for the mix, and possibly the rain at the beginning as well.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
