That is a permissions error (access denied).
Try running Powertracks as Administrator (right click it and select 'Run as Administrator')

Hi :

However, doing it gave only the old version 2020, that's looking into "about"
Also start on the Windows Menu, there are two option : Power Tracks and Power Tracks 64Bit, the second one would be the new version , and is the one which gives the error, when trying to start.

Please close out of the program and go to the drive where PowerTracks is installed (typically the C drive, but may be another drive such as D or E if you changed the install location). Look for a folder called PT. Inside this folder you should see the following two files in the list (note, if you are using 2021 or higher, these files will include 64 in the name):

ptw.ini
ptpa.cfg

Please delete these two files to return your program back to factory settings. Does the issue persist when you re-launch the program? If so, please let us know!

Hi Chantelle:

Yes I did delete it, and without Windows restart (don't know if is needed?) ,came the same error.

Go to file explorer and look at the C: drive.
Is there a PT folder?
Is there another PT_X64 (or similar) folder?

If there is a 64 folder, look in there for a PTW64 executable file.
Right-click that one and Run as Administrator.

I think you may have have done this on the wrong exe file in your first attempt since you launched the 2020 version..

laugh Hi Chantelle:

Well I did install it, like always did in c:\Program Files\pt and when did the update install it went surely to that position, so as I see in the directory there is a ptw64 and ptw from prior version 2020.
The link to open it was still applied to ptw, so I couldn't that the update would not overwrite the old version and instead update the link to the new.
Also, for me is new that it has to be as admin open it! though I'm user and admin.
Well doing the start: clicking to ptw64 as admin open the app.

Thank you and will try in my other PC, and write you back on in case don't work.

Lobster,

Try installing PowerTracks to c:\PT instead of c:\Program Files\PT.

Programs installed to the root directory (c:\PT) use a lower permission level than programs installed under c:\Program Files.

You may still end up with a PT folder under Program Files but the main program executable file won't be.

I'm basing what I'm telling you off a typical RealBand installation which is similar to a PowerTracks installation.

Jim is correct, the PT folder should not be inside the Program files folder. Please run the installer(s) for it again and make sure it is going to C:\PT during the install process. Once finished, open the program from C:\PT and see if that helps your issue.

"the PT folder should not be inside the PT folder"
I think Chantelle meant to say
the PT folder should not be inside the Program Files folder

The default is that it creates its own folder C:\PT. It sometimes doesn't play nice when installed in the Program Files area. Seems like it gets angry. smile

Thanks, I didn't know the option because all this year's since my first version PTW4 always did it this way, with no issues, including the one from 2020.
Well will reinstall with your option,to avoid that admin one.
Will write in case wouldn't work.

Most Windows programs use the Windows registry so Windows is aware of the program's installation and to assist the program in keeping track of program parameters.

None of the PG Music programs use the Windows registry. The benefit of this to you is you can run PG Music programs direct from an external hard drive on any Windows computer using program shortcuts stored on the external hard drive.

When a program does not use the Windows registry, the program should be installed into a folder located in the computer's root directory, normally c:\, instead of under the Program Files or Program Files(86) sub directory. Otherwise the program can run into permission errors because Windows thinks the program is malware.

Computer operating systems moved from 32 bit to a 64 bit programs. This created the need for two program folder structures; Program Files for 64 bit programs and Program Files(86) for 32 bit programs.

The 2022 PowerTracks program changed from 32 bit to 64 bit. That program is PT64.exe.

The 2020 PowerTracks program is 32 bit for everyone that has a computer running a 32 bit Windows operating system. That program is PT.exe.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
