Maybe wait a bit. I have one friend running it, but I've hit some snags.

First, there is nowhere I could find on the Presonus site to buy an upgrade, only full price. Odd. I don't have Sphere.

So, I bought the upgrade ($150) from Sweetwater. Went back to Presonus, but the Register Your Software screen in My Account just hangs.

I have support messages sent in to Sweetwater and Presonus.

I don't own this Matt, but I am curious if they put out a new version to add features or just because they could like SO many software companies do.

I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.

1. How much did you make in 2023?
2. Send it to us.

There are many new features. The one I think they are featuring most is a video track.

The video track looks really amazing. Hopefully, they fixed that offset problem with 5.

Thanks, Brian. I could not find that, and several others said the same on Facebook. We were insulted for our inability to find it, not a good position for the company to take.

Support is helping me now, so I expect to get it running shortly.

Yes I know I could not find it either. They don't make it easy to find that's for sure. I just did a search for upgrade in the software section.

On a slightly different take...with the new version is it now time for me to switch from Cubase to Studio One? I've been carefully studying Studio One each version update for several years, thinking that one day I would switch when it got good enough to do everything that Cubase can do, because a lot of my friends say it is improving at a faster rate than Cubase. I've had Cubase since the beginning (first on an Atari ST!!!) over 30 years ago, but the user interface now looks and acts and quacks like a relic of the last century compared to the way Studio One does.

I go back to the Atari ST days as well and was even a tech on Atari. I was a longtime Cakewalk user and I also own Reaper but prefer Studio One. I switched to Studio One when it was version 2 and have not looked back. The drag and drop everything and how simple it was to use sold me years ago. Each major revision adds lots of user requested things. There are lots of videos out there to watch if you want to learn more about the features. Groove 3 already has Studio One guru Eli Krantzberg for a complete walk-through of Presonus's Studio One 6!
Of course a DAW is everyone's personal choice to what suits their workflow. I think you can download a free trial to check it out.

I'm a decades-long user of Cakewalk Pro Audio ---> SONAR, and rather than follow it to BandLab I used Mixcraft a little then converted to Studio One after trying demos of a bunch of DAWs.

Happened to me too. I just kept getting a little pop up window with a message that I needed to enter the serial number of the product I was upgrading. Where?

What I finally figured out was that you have to click on the v5 product link in your PreSonus account. There's an Upgrade button on that page. Click on that, and you'll be able to enter an upgrade serial number. Convoluted.

Note to European members...

Best Service may have a slightly lower price (139 €), but many people were reporting that B.S. were unable to provide serial numbers (may have run out or may have had an IT glitch). The issue may have been fixed by now. I purchased the upgrade through Thomann. Slightly more expensive (145 €, including 20% VAT), but I already had an account and have purchased numerous items from them with no problems. They issued me a serial number immediately. It took me longer to register it with PreSonus than it did to buy it.

Wow.

Thanks. That's it.

Not only was I insulted by a staffer for my failure to find the upgrade price after I pointed out several others couldn't find it either, but I got stumped completely by this new requirement of clicking on Studio One 5 to enter my Upgrade. It is not how I've entered the upgrade for any of their other products.

Just wow.

But thank you, TheMaartian. I have it running now.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
