Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

You laid down a good groove with the progression and your bass along with the RT's.
The mashup of sw and ev tracks seemed to work well.

Nice clean not too "edgy" and not too "round" bass tone also.
The sweet spot.

And we are always down with an expressive sax.

Enjoyed it!

J&B

PS: Regarding reverb ... its been the primary track effect since Elvis and earlier. The right reverb and the right amount will help a track seem to both move forward and melt into the mix while still maintaining its presence. Google is your best friend! You could spend a lifetime researching it but no doubt there are plenty good summaries. Oh, and I guess you have noted that BiaB puts reverb on its tracks that you can increase or decrease.

Many thanks J&B, glad you liked the groove and enjoyed this arrangement. And I agree, there's nothing like the sax !

Really sweet jazz tune...loved the way you weaved the instruments in and out...the sax steals the show and the bass is a great foundation to build on...great listen! Dan

Oooo. Such a strong and engaging composition, Steve. Your bass is session-man quality. The band and the mix are fine. The sax sometimes seems a bit to the back, but that is a matter of opinion. The way you mixed it is perfect. My first time through I listened as a fan and loved it. The second time I listened for something I could say to make it better. That feeble sax attempt was all I got.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thanks for the comments Dan. You are quite an astute listener.
Yes, instrument weaving. I really like the element of call-and-answer where two or more instruments are communicating with one another. I try to use it when it makes sense.

What can I say about your comments Marty? "Session-man quality" is way over the top but mighty appreciated. I'm not even a teenager on my instrument yet.

Regarding the sax that sometimes fades to the back. Man, you have a good pair of ears underneath that coyote skin hat. I too noticed that. It came straight out of the BiaB box. I had no influence on it. But when I first heard it I said, "wow, I like it". It has a live feel to it where the sax player might not always be able to maintain 0dB variation thru out the song. I wonder if this was an intentional feature programmed by PG Music?

This is one of those subjects that could deserve it's own thread . . . how much "error" or humanizing should we strive for vs how much computer-generated-microsecond-perfection. Not having thought about this much, I'm leaning towards "error".

Bass Thumper,

Keep expanding those boundaries! This has a great smooth jazzy sound! Adding the sax really nails it down! The bass playing sounds great too!

Thanks, Torrey

Many Thanks Torrey, I agree, there's no instrument like the sax especially when Mark Douthit is involved smile

I agree with the others that you've done a nice job of the write, arrangement, performance and production. You put a nice band together.

Hey Charlie, really appreciate the listen and feedback. I'm still relatively new at this but is has been one fun ride so far. Very little of what I've done would be possible without this wonderful tool called BiaB smile

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
