i dont want to be 'yapped at' if i'm wrong cos i'm a newbie re stem separation. so i have questions. (cos i have some old stereo masters done in commercial studios i would like to get stems from.)
1..one of the probs for me is i dont want to muck around with downloading python etc etc to set up spleeter and i came across this gui approach... SOOOOO..is anyone using this called SPLEETER GUI ??
2..i know lots of people use spleeter, but what about this Gui version that saves installing python etc//dealing with command lines etc ? is anyone useing the gui version ? was it easy to set up and run ? are the results good ? does it also work on old mono mixes ? finally in biab audio edit is a feature to branch off to a third party unmixer .. is any biab user using this feature to use spleeter gui..?
(frankly i would like pg to integrate such a feature in biab//rb//ptw.)
<< SOOOOO..is anyone using this called SPLEETER GUI ?? >>
That is exactly the program I use.
I find it to be much better than every online program I've tried because using the PC installed GUI has a default bandwidth of 16KHz and some online sites default to MP3 files and 11kHz limit even if the file is delivered as a WAV.
Spleeter can be configured up to a bandwidth of 22kHz but their documentation states that 16kHz gives the best quality and is the most stable.
Yes, it works with mono files, MP3, WMA and M4a files I've used so far.
I use an EQ preset template I apply that helps the sound quality of all the files I've extracted that cut frequencies in the ranges creating artifacts in most every song and I manually clean artifacts from the tracks.
The Extract Stems link has a specific path it uses and Spleeter GUI does not load to that link nor does the GUI version have the specific file the BIAB link looks for.
so after trying one of the online services, i think i'll just dl gui spleeter and see how far i can take it. the trouble is i have slower (but cheaper..lol) not ultra fast fibre internet and spleeter is a tad on the large size.
one reason i always order pg products over the years on a drive.
The Spleeter GUI folder on my drive only has 10.1 MB. It does an install that provides all the necessary files, Linux and Windows necessary to work and I didn't have to do anything using the command prompt.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows® Today!
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows for free with build 1111!
With this update, there's more control when saving images from the Print Preview window, we've added defaults to the MultiPicker for sorting and font size, updated printing options, updated RealTracks and other content, and addressed user-reported issues with the StylePicker, MIDI Soloists, key signature changes, and more!
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
