NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg's briefing on 2/24/2022

Recorded and mixed in Studio One.
Listening and commenting are much appreciated.

Edit:
Warning: This is not a 3 minute arrangement and may not be suitable for those with short attention spans. I consider this a “docu-song”; an arrangement not meant for short term entertainment purposes but rather one that attempts to educate, enlighten, inspire and capture historically meaningful content.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

That crying baby really got to me. The NATO guy, OTOH, got a little tedious. I wasn't expecting him to be the focus of a seven minute song. It was fine otherwise.

This is a pretty good song, I love how you put all the individual parts together into one cohesive song.
It's a bit too long for my taste though.

I'd like to see a "radio edit" version of your song on the charts: "BassThumper ft. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg: Cries For Help" grin

I'm sorry you found this tedious. It is intentional that "the NATO guy" is the focus, that is the point of the song.

I edited my post to warn others that are similar.

Thanks for the listen and comment.
Putting the individual parts together stretched my mixing skills to their limit but was worth the learning experience. Yes, this is not a 3 minute song . . . intentionally.

Bass Thumper, This is a very impressive piece of music.

Loved the way those back ground tracks supported the narration....brilliant!

Super mix

PS - This reminded me of a song that I haven't heard in years. Simon and Garfundel's 7 O-clock News/Silent Night:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkJlmYwMgRM

Personally liked yours better but I thought you might be interested in hearing it.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Hey Nigel, thanks for the listen.
Some may not have heard the briefing in its entirety. So my goal was for it to be dramatic and to capture the entire briefing.

Hey Mario, "brilliant", "super", "liked yours better" . . . all I can say is WOW ! (and thanks).
I'm glad you get what I tried to accomplish.

I really struggled with the mix.
Did I want the baby to be featured? Yes
The bombing? Yes
Jens? Yes
Cello? Yes
Female vox at the end? Yes
Everything else? Not so much.
It was a challenge but my new headphones helped tremendously and Studio One is amazing.

And thanks for the 7 O'clock News video. Somehow I never heard that before
. . . "Hello darkness my old friend, I've come to talk with you again"

I wonder if there are other songs in the vein of voice-overs out there.

Much appreciated guys.
The good news is that Ukrainian forces have entered Kherson, hopefully the tide will continue to turn in favor of the freedom-loving Ukrainian people and that they won't suffer very much this Winter.

Very impressive!
As a matter of fact this music needs a video.
Then it will become a real documentary.

Great work!

Rob & Anne-Marie, thanks so much for the kind words and the idea to add a video, what a great idea.
If you know a creative person with video skills that would like to collab on this, let me know.

Yes it is long, but I'd not heard this speech before and I thought your backing of it made it all that more powerful. I thought it was great.

Really sad song, feels like the final news broadcast in an apocalyptic movie but unfortunately, it's all happening in our real world. You have captured that sadness in the excellent backing track, cello, bass and drums work hauntingly together and those choir voices are served suitably.

Many thanks for the listen and feedback. You're right, there is nothing Hollywood about this, it's as real as real can get. We're in the 21st century and still witnessing war crimes. Calling Putin barbaric is an understatement and we can hope he will be brought to justice in a criminal court. So many innocent lives lost but one day Ukraine will be a part of NATO and the Ukrainian people and culture will not vanish.

Hey Brad thanks for the listen.

You put your finger on something that was on my mind while designing this arrangement. Like you, not everyone has heard this breifing in its entirety and so making the trade-off between a lengthy "song" vs a snipet of the briefing seemed to make sense to not truncate it. Not everyone will agree, hence the warning.

Hopefully, for most people this will be a positive use of some of their life-minutes.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
