Dream About You

Hope you don't mind me posting a song I posted about 9 years ago, Di's health is really bad and I don't have a lot of time for new compositions. This features Di singing in Taylor Swift style. We wrote this in 2012 and originally posted it here almost 9 years in early 2014. It was recorded using BIAB v12.

When first posted, some folks weren't excited about the banjo intro. But we like it and kept it. We do, however, agree it should have been slowed by 5 - 8 bpm. But we no longer have the original tracks, so it's not possible to rerecord. Also, Di's health doesn't allow her to sing at the level she once did.

I don't have the original tracks so can't post them. But I think it's pretty obvious it's all BIAB. I do remeber the lead guitar was a Pop Rock RT by Dave Cleveland. Hope you might like it!

Dream About You

(c) 2013 Alan D. David, BMI / Diana Bowers, BMI

(1)
My heart's been broken a hundred times I know
All bruised up from hurting and tired of feeling low
Seems it's always staying when it's time for letting go
It had almost healed itself from the last love gone so wrong
Then you smiled at me that way and the feelng came on strng
Now you got me all mixed up, why did you have to come along

CHORUS
I dream about you every night
I know that I can't win this fight
Worried if my heart will make it through
I dream about you every day
Should I run or should I stay
I'm so mixed up I still don't have a clue
And if I go sleep I know just what I'll do
I'll dream about you
But I don't want to

INSTRUMENTAL BREAK

BRIDGE

I don't want to fall in love again
Cuz I know how it will always end
My heart can't take another break
It might already be too late

CHORUS
I dream about you every night
I know that I can't win this fight
Worried if my heart will make it through
I dream about you every day
Should I run or should I stay
I'm so mixed up I still don't have a clue
And if I go sleep I know just what I'll do
I'll dream about you
But I don't want to

(v2)
I tell my heart forget you, move on and let you be
Cuz you're no one special, just another misery
Can't let your smile provoke me, it's just another fantasy
Now I have to tell myself, believe what I just said
Drive those silly notions right out of my poor head
But I'd be lying to myself, so what I'll do instead....is

CHORUS
I dream about you every night
I know that I can't win this fight
Worried if my heart will make it through
I dream about you every day
Should I run or should I stay
I'm so mixed up I still don't have a clue
And if I go sleep I know just what I'll do
I'll dream about you
But I don't want to

Thanks a bunch, Scott. I touched this up a bit and remastered it. All I have is the final stero mix-down, no stems. And yeah, I miss writing songs for her to sing - she often helped with the lyrics. But her health has seriously declined.

Glad you enjoyed it - thanks for letting us know!

Alan

Such a lovely voice, she really is talented.
Here's hoping for a full and complete recovery for her . . . stay strong.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Hi Bass Thumper ...

Thanks so nmuch for the listen. And yeah, she had a gorgeous voice. She stills sings when her health allows, but uit;'s no where near the level of quaklity as ut once was - not good enough she wants to release anything.

Many thanks! Best to you ...

Alan

YES!! I love Di's vocals, and such clarity with so many fast-paced lyrics. Man, this is such a good song, and I dig the banjo. Not the accompaniment one would expect, and the surprise works very well.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hey Marty!

Yes, she was such a dynamic and smooth vocalist until her health declined. But over the past 2 or 3 years, her vocal skills have declined considerably.

I'm glad you had a good listen. Like I said in the song narrative, we got a little negative feedfback about the banjo the first time we posted it. But we stuck to our guns and still think it was the right decision. Thanks for the comment about it. I particualrly enjoyed that.

Several years ago, Taylor swift had a background banjo in one of her songs and we loved it. Thus, the genesis of our decision.

Thanks again!

Alan

Good catchy song.

I like the banjo. I like it when instruments aren't considered a part of a style or genre are used. It adds freshness.

Alan,

It's a little strange intro, but once the song starts I can see the meaning of the intro.
It's a great pop song.
Vocals are also tasteful and very good.
she really is talented.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Nice pop, banjo is an interesting spice to the song.

Di's vocals are great.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

HBi Charlie ...

Glad you enjoyed it! Too bad Di's health has deteriorated to the point she can't sing close what her voice when this was recorded back in 2012. We appreciate the listen.

Hi David ...

Glad you agree the banjo works in its own peculiar way. We like it quite a bit. No other instrument gave us the sound we were looking for after 3 or 4 hours of previewing. Thanks for the comment on Di's voice. It's sad she can no longer sing at that level. But, life does what it does. We deal with it.

Again, thanks ...

Wow! I love this! You guys make a great team! I think this is the first time I've ever heard Di sing, and man what a voice! This couldn't have been an easy one to sing, and she does it so well. I'm used to the quality of your instrumentals being so good, but put together with her voice and the writing in this song .. it's stellar. You made the right decision in keeping that banjo, it adds a lot. I really hope Di gets better, I want to hear some more. Whether she gets her voice back or not though, you guys make a great team, so even if life changes the game, keep playing it together! You guys are great.

I would have never guessed that Di's voice and a banjo would be compatible but you proved me wrong!

She sure did have a fantastic voice.

Super mix.

Tell Di that she is in our prayers.

Alan...it's great to hear Di singing...I love your arrangement...the banjo's and rock guitar combination are really cool...kind of a "newgrass" sound...I'm writing this and whispering a prayer for you and Di as you traverse a difficult valley...loved the song...all my best...Dan

PS...The software Audacity (a free download) https://www.audacityteam.org/download/ will allow you to slow down/speed up, change pitch, etc...it's a great tool...you could slow by 5 bpm without a hitch...play with it...it's fun and a great tool...I use it all the time to make speed variations in songs or stretch notes, etc...I love it!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
