Hey all, I’ve been recording demos in Logic for awhile now as reference tracks to give to band members before rehearsals and have recently taken an interest in mixing and mastering these demos so with help from a YT tutorial ( https://youtu.be/50brclEkw9k ), a visual mixing frequency guide and the pink noise mixing technique ( https://youtu.be/XEjy9K12G4M) I have just finished my first attempt and would really appreciate any feedback, here’s the before track: https://on.soundcloud.com/6YQ1s and here’s after: https://on.soundcloud.com/xGULd … I feel like overall the mix is super static, the vocals and hi-hats have a little bit too much high end and the instrument volumes are a bit off (this is probably because each section changes in volume so I’d automate the volume next time) but this was more an attempt to try and get familiar with the main stock plug-ins I would be using (EQ, compressors, exciters, DeEsers etc). I think first I’m going to start researching into these plug-ins to fully understand what all their components do and how to fully operate them but what do you all think? How could I improve and where should I start? Thank you all in advance!

Hello RJD and welcome to the forum. Did you use any PG Music products while creating your music? It's customary to list them in your post.

[RJD]Yello! Thank you. I did not. This forum is generally supposed to be used for folks posting music made in some way or another with PG music products. That's a given in the showcase but this is the mixing and production forum so..... perhaps a bit more forgiving here. I listened to both for about 25 seconds. I really couldn't hear much of a difference except the vocals seem to be slightly clearer and easier to hear in the "after" version. Tell us what DAW you used, the plugs, and anything else that will help us to understand what you did to make the two versions different.

That pink noise technique is, to be bold, much ado about nothing. The vid really doesn't explain the whys, the levels, or anything practical, let alone warning you of how Pink Noise will cause hearing fatigue VERY quickly which will have a negative impact on your mix and could do damage if it's not protected from being inadvertently bumped up in level.
Are you aware the mix is mono? Are you aware that the bass n kick are giving each other grief?
The vocal is too loud and very dry...it sits above the mix and the pitch discrepancies are very obvious that far forward.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first?
