What About Tomorrow - With Vocal

Not long ago I posted an instrumental version of this song. Ray Cochrane (RayC) heard it and it struck a chord (no pun intended, but I'll take it) with him. He contacted me and asked if he could put a lyric to it and arrange it accordingly. Like I was gonna say no? Not hardly. So, for the past week or so, we've been working on it and ended up with a real nice song. We tried a couple of different arrangements and this is where we mutually agreed on it.

The lyric is in the female POV. But until we can find a female voice for it, Ray did the vocal. He put a little fx on the vocal, then we remixed until we were both pleased with it. He's a better singer than he thinks he is! Thanks Ray!

Ray was a real pleasure to work with. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

I'll add the list of tracks sometime this weekend - probably tomorrow - Saturday 26 Nov). (I have to go find them).

Thanks in advance.

What About Tomorrow?

You and I see differently:
The same things, not the same way,
And we do that readily,
Living through these days.
But what will come to be,
When attitudes have hardened?
When you don't look at me?
(You got) More than your bargained for.

But what about tomorrow?
What will we share?
Will it be loneliness,
At a table laid bare?

Once we'd react spontaneously:
Open to the day.
You kissed, this morning, differently,
In oh so many ways.
But what will come to be,
When eye contact is guarded?
When you don't talk to me?
(We've had) More than we bargained for.

But what about tomorrow?
What will we be?
Will it be loneliness,
Of you or me, not we?

You and I feel differently:
Similar things, not the same way.
Now we pretend so easily,
Lying through each day.
What will this come to be,
When feelings have hardened?
You & I don't make a we,
(We got) More than we bargained for.

But what about tomorrow?
What will we share?
Will it be loneliness
At a table laid bare?

Hi Alan and Ray,

Nice collaboration! Excellent track, Alan.

Love the vocal melody! And I really like the write too.

Too much fx on the vocal for my tastes, but doesn't much matter as the vocal will be replaced anyway.

Overall enjoyed this one, nicely done gents.

Beautiful melody,
Quality lyrics.
With the vocal swimming with Fx, this made the words mostly difficult to understand.
Nervelessness, a good effort.

Hi Al and Ray
Excellent song
I didn't know the instrumental version.
But I think this version with Ray's great #
vocals is definitely even better.
I really like it.
Eine tolle Zusammenarbeit.
Das habt ihr wirklich extrem gut gemacht.
Viele Grüße
Andi ;-)

Excellent decision, Alan. Ray has become one of my favorite humans, and teaming up with you can only result in outstanding creativity. Yes, this song proves my point. Speaking of point of view, I don't necessarily hear this as a female's perspective. Maybe that's just me buying all this genderless stuff many are selling. Anyway, the strings are such a nice touch. Ray, your vocal is perfect, and I like the harmony. Man, you have quite a range. Excellent collab, you two.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thanks for the chance to collaborate Al. It was an easy, relaxed & fun process.
Dave,
There aren't many FX on the voice - tuning and a bucket of reverb with the harmonies tucked in behind.
Thanks for your kind words.
AudioTrack,
Thank you Al's song is excellent. Vocals as mentioned above...they are only a gap fill.
Danke Andi,
es war auch eine einfache Zusammenarbeit und hat Spaß gemacht.
Marty,
I agree - the P.O.V. could very easily be either or no gender. I took my lead from Al's narrative.
I co-wrote a pointedly gender/pronoun free love song back in the late 80s for a musical based on Robin Hood but where Marion was the actual superstar. It was called Rob'n'Marion. The show was performed a bunch of times by three different troupes. A minor success that saw not a dollar.
Thanks for your kind words.

Nice song and a good vocal, agree that ray sells himself short vocally. Tsunami of reverb but it didn't bother me much for some reason. I hear certain pros use a lot of reverb on their vocals. Still interested to hear it if you find a female vocal.

Hi Dave ...

Thanks so much. we'll be replacing the vocals in time, but I think Ray did a real nuice job on them for a demo.

Take care ...

I think it's a beautiful, somewhat sad song with a wonderful melody.

I think Ray did a great job as a female impersonator. If you can't get any of our female forum members to sing the song, I might ask one of my digital girls to try.

The ending is a bit harsh, I think a slower fade out would work better.

This is a nice collaboration, good lyrics and you fellows settled on a fitting arrangement. Good effort all around with the performance and final production.

Hi Alan and Ray,

A very nice song you made. I enjoyed it a lot!
And the lyrics are very nice/good. I will quote 2 sentences that are very nice to read.
They express the fear and mood so well, at least how I look at the lyrics: "What will this come to be, When feelings have hardened?"

But it's a bit a pitty, Ray that you tended to hide the vocals (again).
And of course I read the excuse a female voice come into place, but why?
Just sing out louder. Than I agree with Alan that you are a better singer than you think!

But because you were hiding your vocals a bit, to me the steel guitar was a bit to loud.
Beside those minor issues , what stands is my first sentence!

Together you can make very nice songs. I'm curious if this will be continued...

Hans

Thanks TM,
I look forward to a good vocal on this one...it deserves it.

Al, Great chord progression with unexpected turns that resolve beautifully. Ray I can see why you wanted to a vocal on this. Nice lyrics and a very listenable melody. You have a good voice. I would have preferred to hear it more natural without the wash. I know it's a placeholder but I'm sure you can hold your own. Good collab! Well done, Tom

Alan and Ray,

Nice collaboration!
Very good song.
It seems to be written as a vocal song with lyrics originally, not to be written as an instrumental piece.
A very natural and beautiful melody.
It's very different from the usual Ray's songs.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Lovely melody.

One of my fave set of lyrics from you Ray. I especially like

Once we'd react spontaneously:
Open to the day.
You kissed, this morning, differently,
In oh so many ways.

That was Ray? I thought is was a vocaloid. grin Seriously, that high note/head voice sounded mighty good.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
