When I installed the 2023 update, I noticed that the Playable RealTracks installed to my OS (C:) drive under this folder: C:\Program Files\PG Music Inc\Band-in-a-Box Sounds. I have all of BiaB installed on my samples drive (d:\bb). I wasn't happy to have my OS drive cluttered up with all of those audio files, so I uninstalled the two Playable RealTracks installations.
How do I install them to my d: samples drive? If I can't, why not?
Thanks in advance.

The hiq_instruments_sforzando.exe (you need to run this to register the library) lets you choose the location and the playable_realtracks0x_sforzando.exe lets you choose that same location the default is C:\Program Files\PG Music Inc\Band-in-a-Box Sounds\ you should be able to change it to d:\Band-in-a-Box Sounds\
Else you can create a symbolic link for the folder C:\Program Files\PG Music Inc\Band-in-a-Box Sounds\Programs\Playable RealTracks and move the actual Playable RealTracks folder to d:
By default the install manager (if you used it) puts these files in either the location you LAST installed sound banks, or if you haven't installed them before it installs them to the default location. If you run the installers manually (from your downloads folder), you can choose to install them anywhere you want, and then THAT location will be remembered next time.
The important points are (1) the sound banks should all be installed in the same location, and (2) you need to run the installer at least one time pointed to your new location, because Sforzando needs to know about this location.
Yes, I had the same problem and still not certain how to resolve it.
I *always* install BIAB upgrade manually to my D: drive and every EXE I installed with this upgrade honored that convention, correctly installing to the D: drive.
I uninstalled the hiq instruments, and then ran that installer first, to set the install destination to d:\bb, which installed them to the d:\bb\Band-in-a-Box Sounds folder. I then ran the two Playable RealTracks installers, which found and used that new location. The first time I ran BiaB after moving those installs to the D: drive, I got a yellow box message that the default audio driver had changed. I assume that just reflected the new location of the sforzando hiq instruments. I checked the MIDI and audio interface settings, and those were unchanged.
IMPORTANT: Note that uninstalling the hiq instruments and the two Playable RealTracks sets DOES NOT remove the data files from the original C: drive location. You need to delete them manually. Once installed on D:, you can just delete the entire PG Music directory from C:. I would check first to make sure that nothing other than the three sforzando installs (hiq plus the two Playable RealTracks sets) is located there. If there is, then just delete the Band-in-a-Box Sounds folder and everything under it.

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows® Today!
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows for free with build 1111!
With this update, there's more control when saving images from the Print Preview window, we've added defaults to the MultiPicker for sorting and font size, updated printing options, updated RealTracks and other content, and addressed user-reported issues with the StylePicker, MIDI Soloists, key signature changes, and more!
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
