So it's annual upgrade time again and each year my confusion grows frown
In 2016 I joined BIAB with a basic pack (Pro?) later in 2016 I had the Ultra - plus pack.
In 2017 my version changed to Pluspak where it has stayed until 2022. I was not sure why the levels had changed so I Chat-lined PG music for advice. The agent said to upgrade to date (2023) I would need to buy the upgrade to Ultra+ ($179 offer) plus PAK 4 and two extra styles paks to bring me up to date. As I don't use the extras in Ultra+ (video content etc) I thought I should just get Ultrapak. ($149 offer). I was originally intending to get the $99 Pluspak offer 2023 update and also Styles PAK 4. which I thought should get me almost up to date? Am I missing out much by staying at Pluspak level? Can any kind forum member help out with a recommendation or explanation why it's such a complicated level system please? confused

Kev,
If budget permits, get the Ultra+ and xtra packs you are missing.

If not, I would go for the Ultra (not plus) and 49pack.
Why 49, because it has Real Tracks.

P.S. Maybe PGmusic can offer you some kind of path to get all, considering various segments you have... Not sure, but worth a try smile

I started 10 years ago with UltraPAK and except for one year I always upgrade to UltraPAK with the addition of a hard drive. On that one year I upgraded to UltraPAK+ I found the additional material to be somewhat out of date and subsequently, as far as I can tell, nothing in the plus version is ever updated with the new version. So, long story short, it seems to me getting the plus version once is all you might ever need and all subsequent upgrades would just be UltraPAK.

As Rusty correctly pointed out, you may also wish to get the 49PAK and the Xtra Styles PAKs and XPro Styles PAKs as well to ensure you have everything.

Thank you to Rustyspoon# and John John John for your useful replies. I'm leaning towards both suggestions of UltraPAK and 49PAK only for now and possibly the XPro styles at a later date. Like John I really meant to update to UltraPAK every year since 2017 onwards, but finished up downgrading to PlusPAK without really understanding the situation. I thought PG music had just renamed the PAK. Hopefully by upgrading to Ultra again it might make up a little lost ground.

Thank you for your help with this.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
