Hello all, long time again since I've posted.

I'm having trouble with bars in BIAB. I might be asking to much but here goes.

Here's the song I want to create in BIAB - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLKAK4g8va0&ab_channel=IntegrityMusic

The intro of the song has half a bar of 4 notes before the kick/bass comes in on the first chord of Ab.

As there are 4 bars across in the chord windows of BIAB Id like half a bar on the first line then 4 bars as usual from line 2.

Is this possible?

------------------

If not is there a way to split 1 bar into half a bar for the 4 notes intro before the first chord comes in? Because a whole bar for that intro of 4 notes is too long.

Should be doable.

Try this:

First remove the count in bars so song starts on bar 1, then use F5 to set the first bar to 2/4. This will permit 2 beats in measure 1 which should allow the 4 pickup eight notes I hear. Set the song form so the first bar is an intro. Then change bar 2 to 4/4 for the rest of the song. You will have to put the pickup notes in via midi Or Playable Real tracks (PRT). Use F5 to set who plays what when,

With BB 2023 you will be able to copy notes to the count-in bars (just needs fixing at the moment)
you can also use volume automation to mute half the bar, the BB 2023 has master track volume automation.
You can also use midi notes for pickup notes.

What photo sharing site are you using to share that screen shot? I've always used the free photobucket but now they want me to pay. I don't use it enough to justify.

Following your instructions I don't see the same results are you. I'm running BIAB 2022 standard layout. Can't see how to change the display of BIAB?

I can't get half a bar on a single line

I cant show 2/4 or 4/4 in the boxes as you are showing

This is actually BIAB 2023 I am using. But the time signatures should be displayed same as BIAB 2022. There may be a preferences selection to turn on the viewing??
Moving any bars to a second line is done with the part markers which are indicated by the colored section. That may also be a preference "new line for each mark marker"

You do need to select the "Full Reply" option toi see it, then it's located jest below the text window as a hyperlink.

I can confirm BiaB 2022 shows the time signatures. Maybe you're not doing what we think.

Click on bar 1 where the first chord is, then hit F5, then near the top left set "#Beats This Bar" to 2, then click OK.

To get the bar on a line on it's own, click on bar 2 where the bar-number digit is to get a coloured part marker. Normally this will force a line break; if it doesn't there's an option for that somewhere (Hm, where? .. Ah Prefs->Display->lower-right-ish)

Click on bar 2 where the first chord is, then hit F5, then near the top left set "#Beats This Bar" to 4, then click OK.

There is a file size restriction. The link is too large to view in the message.

If you're referring to these (see arrows), it's because you have 'New Line for every Section' selected in 'Display Options'.

Tech support helped me out. So to get bar one on its own I need to change "Number of Columns" to 1 from 4.

"If you go into Options | Preferences | Display you'll see the option to increase or decrease the "Number of Columns"."

You mentioned you want to have some pickup notes in the first bar. To do that you will need to enter the midi which is typically done in the Melody track. When you save this file the default .sgu will turn into a .mgu file. So you have no yet added the pickup notes. No problem, I can add them. Send the .sgu file
.

The gray chord titles (not grayed end of bar marker section) are likey due to you changing the beats/bar so that there are not enough beats to play the later chord. That should be fixable.

BTW, do you have the full chord chart?

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
