Hello,

I've got the next chord a Cb9#9 ( c2 e2 a#2 e3 a#3 c#4 d#4). The problem is I cannot find this chord in the chord builder. Did I miss something or is it not there? What can I do to make this work in the chord progression?

Thanks,

Martijn

Someone with more experience of building chords in BiaB may help, but my feeling at present is that that chord+voicing is probably out of BiaB's scope.

I would have spelled the chord, from root up:

C
E
G which you don’t have
Bb - a flat 7 rather than a sharp 6
Db - flat 9
D# - sharp 9, although I would use Eb to look better

This chord is not directly supported in BIAB.

This is assuming as Gordon did that the root is C. When you start a chord with Cb it is ambiguous whether that means B, or C with a flatted ninth.

Assuming the root is C, you have two possibilities I can think of:

1) use C7alt and hear a combination of sharp or flat 5th and/or sharp or flat 9th

2) write a C7#9 chord then manually edit it using the new Playable RealTracks feature in BIAB 2023, add the b9 and possibly take out the G
Then copy this chord as needed.

I would pay to see that done in BIAB. It would be a master class. grin

Yeah, me too.

He asked if it is supported, and that answer is No.

He then asked if it could be done, and I think it can.

It is an interesting question. I didn't even address if it makes sense. I personally would not want to hear a dominant seventh chord with no fifth, and both the flat and sharp nine added. Perhaps 7alt will work. If not, choose either the flat nine or the sharp nine over a dominant seventh. Those are supported. Then if he thinks there is still a missing note, put it in the melody.

I spent 45 minutes and actually got close to doing this as you suggest, but the learning curve is steep. I was working in the key of F# because I thought the Cb9#9 would resolve to F# - the sharpes were killing me in the BIAB notation editor. And I was using a simple style which was actually not simple enough for me. So I need to start over with "block" chord style and try again.

If I get it I will post the video. It does seem doable. grin

This keeps coming up regularly over the years.
As I mentioned before you now have playable realtracks, it even has a volume adjust now in the piano roll rather than having to open the VSTi.
There is so much potential here to do lots of things, I can add bends, vibrato, pull-offs and hammer-ons to the notes or extra chord notes.
All this can be made to be done intelligently by Biab.

I was able to use the PRTs to substiture into the piano roll a Cb9#9 for the C7#9. It was tedious. The change was made to an e-piano RT and the sound change between the HiQ midi synth and the RT were barely perceptable.

It was an interesting exercise for me since the PRTs have been with us for over a year and this is the first time I have messed with them. But, the workflow performs as advertized.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
