I'm sure this must have come up countless time ... but I don't know where to look. And while I couldn't find an exact forum fit, I figured this might be the right place? If not, I'm sure the mods will move it and let me know.

That said, I found style a I thought had the perfect instrumentation for a song I was working on, but the style and the song had different time signatures. I changed the # of beats in Bar Settings, but it sure didn't sound right.

Specifically I was using a 4/4 style and trying to make it work in a 3/4 song.

I can imagine that the drum beats using a RealTrack would never sound right, but I guess also that must be true for the riffs as well, right?

So is the only solution to find another style in the correct tempo and then try to cobble together similar instruments ... or do some RealTracks have the same player playing the same setup in both 4/4 and 3/4?

Thanks.

This is the right sub forum for such a question... Great question BTW!

So, there's very few songs that actually do this, hence you won't find a BB style that will do this in a satisfactory manner..... changing from 4/4 to 3/4 in the same general style. I used to play the Kenny Rogers song Lucile starting in 3/4 and switch to 4/4 in the chorus, back and forth as required.... the dancers did NOT like that one bit.

Anyway.... how to do it in BB. My best guess at how to accomplish this task and have it sound reasonably good would be to select TWO styles... one in 4/4 and one in 3/4 and generate TWO DIFFERENT projects. One complete in 4/4 and the same for 3/4.

Then.... Import the finished/mixed waves into a DAW and use your editing functions to split them in the proper places using a MEASURE as the resolution, and splice them together in a new track. Place them both in the same project and splice them together in a new track in that project.

That's what I would try first.

Thanks, Guitarhacker ... or can I just call you 'Hack' for short? smile

I guess the basic answer is you can't successfully use a style created in one time signature in another ... so a RealTracks style will only work in the time signature for which is was created. Since AFAIK there are no equivalent 3/4 and 4/4 RealTracks, meaning same player with same instrument and playing style.

My second thought would be that this should work well with MIDI styles where you could use F5 to change both the time signature and style at various points in the song. Then use identical instrument patches in both the 3/4 and 4/4 sections.

For MIDI there is actually a function Edit MIDI Form - where you can change from 4/4 to 3/4 and vice versa. You find the function in BIAB 2022 for MAC when you click on the drop down window in the mixer under each track.

When it comes to Real Track you will have to play around with the Track Time Base

MacMini M1 - BIAB2021 - Logic Pro X - iZotope Music Production Suite - Scaler 2 - far too many Waves plugins and Line 6 Guitars and boards + a fantastic Yamaha THR10ll mini Amp - Avid MBOX Studio

Peters' Garage is available on all major streaming services

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
