As BIAB evolves and continues to do things no one imagined even just a few short years ago, things once inconsequential become critical in moving the workflow forward.

Upon the encouragement of Matt Finley in a post I originated on changing the default New File, I'm bringing my thoughts here.

In fact, my thoughts have expanded since I began that other post.

In essence I would like to be able to create a 'new file' template or series of templates from which I could choose in order to accomplish two things: 1) to open a new file with all the plugins I want instantiated in the mixer in place; and, 2) to have one of a favored style incorporated when a new file is opened.

But also, please leave my utility tracks alone when I change styles!

When I change a style on an arrangement why should any tracks change other than the ones necessary to the new style? So, I have a favored RealDrum with individual stems on my Utility Track. It works with the genre, tempo, swing, etc., of the particular styles I'm auditioning with my arrangement. Why is it 'nuked' when I load a new style that only invokes the legacy tracks?

I'm loving where BIAB is moving and I'm not wanting it to be a DAW. But if you are going to provide me a mixing environment while I'm arranging, please make it a fluid workflow that doesn't requiring going back to start anytime I want to make a change.

I do understand this better now that you've mentioned the effect on the Utility Tracks. I agree.

And others agreed in your first thread that the workaround available to us is to create a template or templates, but I don't think that solves your problem with the Utility Tracks. Some of us were hoping that BIAB 2023 would do more to make the Utility and Legacy tracks function the same. That may not be possible, or may not be the right eventual solution - I really don't know - but it would seem that it could be related to your point.

+1 for some better user control over this.

A good idea. Will need to see how this would be done. Perhaps a preserve plug-ins flag on a track?

Dr. Gannon ... great idea if that can be done. I often audition multiple styles with an initial chord pattern. Having to redo the plug-ins is sometimes a bit of a chore.

And thanks again for Band In A Box - your team does fantastic work!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
