New Year Funk

Let's end this year and start the new one with a little funk!

BiaB style - W-Report Hip Hop Fusion
Tempo 100 BPM

I deleted the strings
I replaced the piano track with 2847 Piano - Funk then changed the sound to Kontakt - Clavinet
Bass - Ample Bass - YinYang set to slap
Drums - Steven Slate's SSD 5 - Funk 1 kit

I am playing my Xaviere 335 humbucker guitar
Via my keyboard I am playing the following:
Trumpet - Kontakt - Vintage Horns - Trumpet open
Tenor Sax - Swam Tenor Sax 2 - bright
Bari Saxe - Swam Bari Sax
Flute - Kontakt - Passion Flute

FX - a touch of Little Plate reverb on all but the bass and bari sax
FX - Tube Saturator and Limiter on the master

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Hey Mario...I agree with Floyd about your use of the controller...I use controller keys a lot and it is a challenge to say the least to try to produce a realistic instrument reproduction on one...you do such a great job with that!...I'm no funk-master but I think you got there!

Grooves like hell... the bass and the Clavinet fills get me moving.
I think Stevie would like this smile

The humanization of midi through your controller is a huge plus...it makes all the difference.

Thanx so much Floyd. I can not take credit for that bass track as it is straight from the BiaB style. All I did was to select the bass patch.

Thanx for listening and commenting. I have been using MIDI and MIDI keyboard controllers since the mid 80's and I still struggle sometimes to get a VSTi to sound organic.

Thanx D.B.. I really liked the bass and Clavinet myself but I can't take credit for those tracks. They were straight from the BiaB style and all I did was to select the sound patches.

Thanx Ray. I call that being organic. I might not be playing the actual instrument but I am playing the emulation live and that makes a big difference, i.e. no quantization.

We've developed a renewed appreciation from your productions, Mario.

Thanks for that.

The realism of your tracks from the days of your wind controller to nowadays keys is amazing.
We know everybody says that but it is a manifest fact. So there. smile

Happy Holidays,

J&B

Thanx Tom. I have been doing MIDI since the mid 1980's and it is my main way of generating songs, of course with a lot of help from BiaB.

Ah, my favorite soundsdcape artist. Cool funk, Mario. I listened before reading and wondered if you used the new horn stems from BiaB2023. Man, you really know how to build the sound of your projects in such an engaging way. From start to finish I loved it.

Enjoy whatever happens!

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Thanx Marty. No I did not use the new horn stems. I prefer to work in MIDI so I can pick with horn(s) to use. I haven't even looked at those stems and I rarely use RTs and RDs in my music. I have used RTs and RDs in other people's music but Covid stopped people from coming over! Plus I not ready to start recording others anyway.

Thanx Andi. Herbie Mann, a flutist, did a some funk songs and that is where I got the idea. However he is much better at playing than I am trying to emulate him.

Mr. MIDI strikes again with a funka-lishus offering! Wish I could do this, but it takes more skill than you admit to. I've tried, so I know that for a fact. Me and MIDI just don't hit it off. But you da King. I have to admit I look forward to your joke taglines as much as I do your songs. I'm sure they brighten everyone's day.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
