So....I'm contemplating a purchase of BITB. The problem I have is I'm on a Mac. PGMusic is not committing to a date on BITB 2023 for Mac release. Could be today, could be next year. They are also not committing to a reasonable upgrade cost should I choose to purchase now.

So as it stands I could purchase BITB 2022 now and be forced to spend another $175.00 tomorrow if the upgrade comes.

The scenario would make some sense if the carrot of 2023 for Windows wasn't hanging out there. As it is it completely prevents a purchase BITB until 2023 for Mac is released. Seems strange.

Thoughts?

Contact PGMusic and see what they say about this issue. Maybe you can purchase now and get a free upgrade later. I don't know if that is the case but only PGMusic can give you a correct answer.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

PGM has a 30 day full return policy, so that tomorrow stuff is not an issue.

In the past BIAB Mac has always come out early summer.

And finally, Welcome to the forum grin

Yep, I contacted PG by phone and they were adamant that if I purchased BIAB Ultrapak today the upgrade price to BIAB 2023 for Mac would be another $280.00.

Strange business model particularly (as I mentioned) since 2023 for Windows is already out there. It completely prohibits a purchase until the 2023 for Mac is released and they're not committing to a release date, other than "by the end of summer". It seems like leaving money on the table to me but they're holding firm.

I'll just find another software solution frown

No guarantees, but when the Mac version is released, it will likely be available at a discounted price (including for upgrades) during the promotion period.

Yep..of course, but I'm havin' trouble takin' that chance. I'm very familiar with upgrades with DAW's, Camera apps, etc so I'm not new to that game. But since 2023 is already out this really leaves new Mac users stranded for 8 months or so on a gamble. As I said, that seems like a lot of money left on the table.

I actually don't think it's too much of a chance. New releases have been offered at a discounted price for as long as I can remember. Of course, it's ultimately your choice.

Yep, thank you!

In talking to PG they referred me to the current upgrade path (2021 to 2022) as to what to expect as far as an upgrade cost. Currently, that's $280. That'd make the entry cost of $750.00 for a copy of BIAB. Doesn't make sense to even think about it at that point.

I concur with the advice given that historically the Mac version is not released until late spring/early summer. If you purchase within 30 days of release of 2023 for Mac, you are entitled to a free upgrade. If you buy now, with the 30-day money back guarantee that no one uses, you have about six months to become familiar with the program before the upgrade.

Windows users have the exact same condition, just on a shifted calendar. A new user of the Windows version could ask your same questions in August.

I should add that we have been told the code differences between Windows and Mac versions are getting fewer. However, the changes in the operating systems (notably by Apple) force developers to scramble and these aren't always predictable.

And yes, welcome to the forum.

Thank you for the welcome smile BTW: I was in the Hudson Valley (Tarrytown) this summer and found it delightful. A most welcome change from Los Angeles.

As to BIAB it's not a big deal. I'll just wait until summer. It would help however to time the releases together. As I'm sure you're aware most developers try. I know when I worked for Digidesign it was often a major priority to sync releases. We didn't always get it done but a priority none the less.

It just seems strange that the current cost of BIAB 2023 for Windows is $469.00 and the current cost of BIAB 2023 for Mac is (would be) $749.00

I have never compared Windows version prices with Mac version, but please keep in mind that comparison at this time is unfair. There are heavily discounted prices now on Windows products to coincide with the December release of version 2023. These promotional prices return to normal sometime soon, historically at the end of January. Then, when the Mac version is released in 2023, there will be promotional discounts for that and the Windows regular prices for new buyers will be higher for a month or two. Then, if historical patterns hold, the cycle begins again in December 2023. The two platforms are treated the same way, just at different times.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
