One More Whiskey Song

So the original title for this song, right up until the last second, was Another Floyd Jane song. I was doing it as a joke for Floyd as Tater Totts to compete with him in the gut-wrenching, heartbreaking, cry your eyes out genre.

But when I got finished with EVERYTHING, I said, "No. This is not that bad. Change the title and hook to one more WHISKEY song."

Maybe next time Floyd! There is still time!!

ONE MORE WHISKEY SONG

by David Snyder

https://soundcloud.com/david-snyder-gigs3/one-more-whiskey-song

V1

Driving down the road I crashed my car
She flew through the windshield
And hit that asphalt tar
Might have had too much to drink
Don't remember all that much
But the sheriff said my breath did stink
They put handcuffs on me, first, then came the hospital room

PC

And she looked up at me with tears in her eyes
Said I guess our love has brought me to the end of my life
In a few more minutes I'll be gone
So could you sing me
Just one more Whiskey song

CH

Sing me one more Whiskey song before I die
Cuz you were drinking and you wrecked that car
Should have never learned to drive
But at least the song might make you a country music star
About whiskey, and a car wreck
And a love affair gone wrong
So sing me...while you're crying and I'm dying
Just one more Whiskey song

V2

Next thing I knew I was headed down death row
With shackles on my feet so I was walking mighty slow
The warden said the chair is ready and you know it won't be long
So before you get that shock
Could you sing us one more song

CH

Sing me one more Whiskey song before you die
Cuz you were drinking and you wrecked that car
Should have never learned to drive
But at least the song might make you a country music star
About your love affair with whiskey
And a human life that’s gone
So sing me...while you're crying and dying
Just one more Whiskey song

Bridge

And some bets that are made
Are just made to be lost
When I rolled and flipped that car
I regret the dice I tossed

CH

So I’ll sing you one more Whiskey song before I die
I was drinking and I wrecked that car
Should have never learned to drive
But at least the song might make me country music star
So let me sing it one more time for all the things that I’ve done wrong
Just one more
Whiskey song
Oh just one more
Whiskey song

Hi there David. I like the hook to this and really like the cord progression and overall sound of the song. I realize the writing started out as just having some fun with Floyd, but with a bit of work and your writing/production talent I think you could have a seriously good song here. You're always good at stirring up some fun on the forum, looks like we're in for another good year of fun with David Snyder!

Thanks Brad,

I just sent you a p.m.

Would love to hear your thoughts on revisions.

Yeah, it started out as a total joke until I realized it might have a nugget to it.

Let's talk.

Hey David.
A little controversial for some and you probably won't get it on a major label, but it's clever writing so your work is done.
Who needs major labels anyway?
Good production too.

Glad to see you're back on the sunny side of life again.

That's a little on the dark side but it is well done

Dave, The chorus is killer. The chord progression is excellent, The guitars sound great. I'm not sure about the first verse. To my ears there is an extra line in there at the end that doesn't match up with the 2nd verse. But hey maybe you wanted it that way. There's no rules especially in Snyderworld! You are your own man. I listened multiple times ,so i guess that's what we're after. I enjoyed it a whole lot. Here's to ya, Tom

Now that is a freakin' funny song!
I really liked this.

I few suggestions if I may:
Turn the car into a pickup truck
Get mad as your easy rider rifle rack and rifle got busted
The moonshine you were hauling rolled off the truck and hit a train
and the train caught on fire

Yes sir that would be bonafide country song!

Just kidding this is a really great song as is!

I went line dancing last night. Well it was a roadside sobriety test, same thing.

Hi, David. Well, emulating Floyd Jane is a terrific motivator, but a lofty goal unattainable by most. Man, you definitely have that "gut-wrenching, heartbreaking, cry your eyes out genre" down. Your lyrics are so good, and my favorite line is "Next thing I knew I was headed down death row." That's overkilling the sadness. You had a good girl there who still wanted to hear another song of yours, and even the warden had good taste.

REALLY cool progressions & structure with a good band.
Is whisky really as prevalent in US life as your songs suggest?
I loathe the stuff myself and don't know anyone who drinks it other than my old man.
It's funny but dangerous, sad but a parody.
I assume the almost rhymes are part of the fun too.

Cheers

Was that a song about having one more whiskey or one more song about whiskey? wink

Either way, you had me at the title!

Fun write, exactly as promised. You've once again demonstrated the golden rule of sad country songs: when you think you've crossed the line, just keep on walking.

Speaking of walking:

Next thing I knew I was headed down death row
With shackles on my feet so I was walking mighty slow

Now that's a lyric! laugh

Very funny, a country parody to be taken seriously, you never fail to surprise. Now I have an urge to write my own whiskey song and somehow make it mightier than yours laugh

David,

Terrific write and a great hook! As ray noted, really cool chord progressions in this and I like the choice of the electric guitars on this production. On the whole, it's a little dark thematically, but a slick listen regardless. Great stuff!

All my best to you,

Deej

Excellent song David!
Especially the chorus, great music there.
This is a real "David song".
And you sing it very well.

"The warden said the chair is ready

Does it get any better than THAT???

As I said in an earlier thread - I told Bill, when he sent me the lyric - that I've never liked dead-wife songs. Dead-soldier songs are even worse (and then he sent me one of those, too). Fortunately we stopped before doing the dead-dog song.
BUT.... I never considered the I-caused-my-girlfriend's-death song.
Dark humor runs cold in your veins, son.

Excellent modern-Country backing. Love those guitars!
An excellent vocal for The Row. Death or Country Music.

Y'all ain't right.
An we get the rewards from that...
Count us Lucky.
