Last year’s cross country trip included a stop in Carbondale Illinois where I went to college.

I hadn’t been back in 50 years and it filled me with stories that I hadn’t thought about in

decades. Not all of them good.

There were a few terrible things that happened back then that made my time there much more

difficult then I would have liked. I survived and in the process I realized it was just another step

in this long journey. While visiting something unusual happened the first day walking down the

street. I ran into a guy I knew from my time there who never left. You should have seen the look

on my wife’s face when I yelled out “ Hey Dave”. This song is about that visit and is dedicated

to Justin Boot Co. and Jose Cuervo Traditional Tequila. I hope you like it and feel free to

comment as always. Thanks, Tom

Ain’t been around here much

Since i left this town

There’s ghosts round every corner

And they don’t make a sound

But somewhere in the back of my head

I might have never left

Got half a mind to leave right now

If the other half knew what’s best

In the trunk’s there’s a pair of Justins

Wore out long ago

Never thought that I’d be back here

Walkin this old gravel road

To a place where I can look back and

Remember my roots

Sure has been a real long time

Since i wore them boots

Some things they oughta stay buried

Way down in the dirt

If you go digging around there

Somebody’s gonna get hurt

Don’t you wake them sleeping dogs

Don’t em let know you’re here

Don’t go trying to change the past

Just let it disappear

Sounds great
You play really good guitar
And also the sound of the guitar is extremely good
What kind of guitar/amp combination do you play ?
Great work

This is my new favorite of yours, very good choice of instruments, nice drive and your vocals and guitar playing/sound are top.

Mix is also good, so absolutely nothing to complain from my side smile

What a great teaser in what you say before I push Play. We have a Carbondale in PA, too, and most folks pronounce it Car-Bon-Delay --real fancy like. I love this song, and I love that Dave hasn't graduated yet. Nary a mention of Jose, but I know it was in there. The lyrics are dripping with lemon and salt. A fun memory made better by time. Love it, Tom.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Tom, very well done man.
Love that guitar playing and one can easily relate to the lyrics.
Of the many things that came to mind as I listened was Billy Joel's lyric
"When I wore a younger man's clothes".
In this case it's "When I wore a younger man's boots" smile

Well done in all aspects.

Tom...now that's "boot kickin" country....super track...I like when you stretch out your vocals in the the upper range...pro sounding all the way especially your electric work...would not have been surprised to hear this on a country radio station...not sure much good comes out of Illinois these days or inspires songs but Carbondale and SIU are south enough to do that I suppose!

Oh, yeah - good song! All the way around. And it definitely has your signature sound - right from the first beat. I really liked the whole thing, but the last line of that first verse and the entire second verse are just killer. A very relatable song, We've all been there. This is yet another example of why I like your guitar picking so well. It's got a really good lead that fits the song well, but you are a master at coming up with a great signature riff that carries an entire song along. Great tone and clever ending too. Great all around Tom!

Tommy,

This is one of the absolute best and most radio-ready country songs I have ever heard on here.

Outstanding. LOVE it.

Going to copy those tracks and make a style right now, as I often do with your songs. I have a Tommy Adams styles folder I made. Keep 'em coming, and I'll keep typing. It's a good deal for me man.

Tom,

Your tracks always have such a big awesome sound that really let the guitars have their proper place in the mix! Man I love the whole production of this one! Your vocals sound really great and are perfect for this type of tune! The realtracks you chose couldn't be any better for this and they sit in the mix right where they should IMO! Great solo at around 2:00! Great ending!

Take care, T

Tommy, you have produced some fantastic music but this one is the absolute best IMHO.

"Some things they oughta stay buried

I can relate eek

This should be played on every contemporary country station right now.
Everything is pro level on this one.

Loved it.

Man, you always seem to have a knack for coming up with killer riffs for your songs, and this song is a good example, great hook!

Good story, delivered well. Love the solo!

The punchy mix got my attention right away, and the song didn't let up.

Catchy chorus, great vocal, hooky guitar riffs... plus a cool story.

Hi Tom ...

Did you graduate from SIU? As I think you know, I'm originally from St. Louis, not far away from Carbondale (been there numerous times). Home of the Salukis!

Great song, Tom! For my ears, had Waylon's style written all over it. Lots of truth in the lyric - some things should simply be left to die in peace. Loved the crunch in the guitars. And the extended drums at the end were perfect!

You give country music a good name! Keep up the good work!

Alan

Yowzers! Man, have you listened to Brothers Osborne? (not the Osborne Brothers smile )
We love this and it nails their vibe and even your vocals are similar in tone and phrasing.
Pitch it to them!

You wrote a great backstory to set up the song story.

Sounds like a well honed gigging band and your guitar is perfecto.

We've said it a hundred times and by golly here it is again.
Your productions are pro level and set a high bar for many including us to only dream of.

Outstanding all the way around Tom!

That's a very, very good song, Tom!

I love everything of it; the guitar, the rhythm, the percussion, vocals, lyrics... well everything. This is how Country Rock must sound, I think.
Like David wrote, this is really a radio ready song, must become a hit. I'm sure!

I've played it several times now, great song and that outro, great!

Cool lyric Tom. Boy when I go back to my home town. I hardly recognize it anymore. Super vocal and excellent backtrack. Guitars were excellent as well.

Great song, Tom! For my ears, had Waylon's style written all over it. Lots of truth in the lyric - some things should simply be left to die in peace. Loved the crunch in the guitars. And the extended drums at the end were perfect!

You give country music a good name! Keep up the good work!

Alan
I did graduate from SIU. Thanks for the wonderful comments and your continued support over the years. Hope you're doing better, Tom

In reference to the Brothers, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. They were definitely on my mind. Thanks for all that good stuff, Tom

Hello Tom,

Vocals and guitars are great.
The guitar riff in the intro is really cool.
Rock and country are blended well and it feels good.
And there is a bit of a Western movie image.
If I drink while listening to this song, it would be I.W. Harper 12 Years Old.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

I love everything of it; the guitar, the rhythm, the percussion, vocals, lyrics... well everything. This is how Country Rock must sound, I think.
Like David wrote, this is really a radio ready song, must become a hit. I'm sure!

I've played it several times now, great song and that outro, great!

Hans
(yet I'm curious what bad things happened then)
Thanks for all that. I’m going to take my own advice and let those memories stay buried, Tom

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
