https://www.auralfractals.net

"Aural is a fractal music generator that creates endless musical themes from Chaos. You can generate an infinite amount of fractal compositions in Aural and export them as MIDI files, so you can use them in your favorite music composer software."

Not exactly AI, but advanced mathematical generators. We all know the spiffy graphic art you can get from fractals, this does something like that with music.

Here's a piece I generated using the "Cellular Automata" preset, whatever that means and whatever exactly it did. I asked for 10 minutes of raw MIDI material then cooked it all up in Logic. I find the melodies and harmonies I was given eerily beautiful, and I'm happy with the way I rendered them.

It is exactly 10 minutes long and the listener might be forgiven for not staying for the whole thing, though there are some surprises that reward patience (storm of glass marbles!) and it wouldn't be the worst way you could spend the time.

I listened and liked what I heard. My eyes are being opened to this AI generated music world which seems to be exploding around us. Not sure what to make of it all... Is this a good thing or is this not?

That was really good!

Change that lead piano to a soft eerie sounding synth and you will have a perfect space the final frontier genre song.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

Thanks for listening. I’m super fond of that weird little thing.

The alarm about DALL-E in the visual art world makes me think about what it must have been like when photography was new and feared to be bad; it was the death of painting, if not art itself. But here we are and art seems to have survived, and “painting” is more popular than ever in the form of digital art.

I am having a lot of fun with AI and doing cool things with it so I say it’s a good thing. I understand the concerns, but in the words of the Firesign Theater, “live it, or live with it“; AI is here to stay. Let’s try to be good humans doing good things with this technology we have created and we should be OK.

Personally, my biggest concern is I don’t want to become annoying by quoting ChatGPT too much (and it’s tempting to quote it all the time!)

Thanks, Mario! I’ll leave starship bridge music to you, though, and keep the piano. I was going for a Brian Eno “Music for Airports” effect — not music for spaceports. =8^)

I imagine that this sort of music could find itself being used as underscore in low budget movies. Very useful for film makers on a very tight budget, assuming it can be used without infringing some sort of copyright from the software creators.

I think that this sort of music will be used to help compose songs. One could take a section or two of what "Chaos" gives you and mold it into a song. I feel the same about AI lyrics. Both could help breaking through a mental block. YMMC

Yup yup yup. And in the end, after creating/generating some AI-assisted material, you might wind up discarding much or even all of the AI words & music on which you spun up your own, at that point having created a 100% unambiguously original human work.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
