I was trying to enter notes in the Notation window. Found it very clumsy to have to click the mouse in the just the right spot to select the note position I wanted, since 1/16 note divisions are shown.

Suggestion: Right/left arrow key already moves by a 1/16. I was doing quarter notes, so had to press the key 4 times for each quarter note position. How about special key combos that will move 1/4 or 1/8 note? Ideally, the "move" key combo could be done by the left hand, so the right hand could quickly use the mouse for clicking the note wanted (switch hands for "lefties").

Note: Playing around with key combos, I found ALT+arrow will move by an 1/8 note. Couldn't find this mentioned in the manual. Maybe there is already a hidden key combo for a 1/4 note move?

My forum post regarding my troubles had this comment for a possible additional change:

"Perhaps a special key would insert the note in a given position on the stave e.g. <Ctrl>Insert, and <Ctrl>up/down arrow keys could shift it to the desired pitch position"

Thanks for considering this,

Ralph

A great suggestion. Being able to step enter notes on the stave using key-combinations would be very useful and time saving.

+1

You can already enter and edit notation using keystrokes. In editable notation mode, the ‘m’ and ‘n’ keys do this, in combination with the cursor arrow keys.

See the section on ‘Entering Notes Entirely with Keystrokes’

https://www.pgmusic.com/manuals/bbw2022full/chapter8.htm

There’s a keystroke entry mode - the “N” mode, which lets you enter a melody entirely using keystrokes.  The keystrokes are N to enter a note, up/down cursor to change its pitch, M to enter an additional note a third above the existing note, left/right cursor to move the time line, and R to enter a rest.
Hit the N key to enter a note at the current time line.
While the note is highlighted, use the up/down cursor keys to change its pitch.
If you want to add a note a third above the existing note on the current time line, hit the M key.
Use the right/left cursor keys to move the time line.
Hit the R key to enter a rest at the current time line

Have Fun!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
