Hi, Just received the upgrade to Audiophile external hard drive and trying to play songs using real drum and instruments. it takes about 2 and a half minutes to load a song and start playing. Is this normal.

That seems slow. In my testing here, I played the _TOBY.STY demo song which has only RealTracks (no MIDI), and it took under half a minute to generate. The second generation took about 21-22 seconds. The song has 32 bars/3 choruses, with 5 tracks: 4 RealTracks and 1 RealDrums. I am using WinXP, 2GHz processor,1GB RAM, with the hard drive connected to a USB 2 port. How about you? I also did a test using a WMA-only version installed on my C: drive and the second generation of the song took about 27 seconds.

You may be connected to a port on your computer that only supports USB 1.1 -- try other USB ports in turn, many computers have only one USB 2 connection, the rest being USB 1.1 for connection of peripherals like keyboards and mice, etc.

Thanks for your relies fellas. You are right about the USB port. I tried another computer and the delay has been reduced to about 25 seconds. Appreciate your help. By the way anothe r small problem that seems to exist on both computers is when I try to mute an instrument by right clicking the mouse I get a drop down box which need to be clicked again to mute the instrument. The previous version 2007 just right clicked the instrument to mute. Any ideas?
Regards

The muting has been changed. That's not a bug, its a feature, but I guess we have to get used to doing something different.

Keyboard shortcuts still work:

MUTING PARTS

Right click on Combo to mute/unmute all parts

ALT 2 Mutes All Instruments

ALT 3 Mutes the Bass

ALT 4 Mutes the Piano

ALT 5 Mutes the Drums

ALT 6 Mutes the Guitar

ALT 7 Mutes the Soloist

ALT 8 Mutes the Strings

ALT 9 Mutes the Melody

ALT 0 Mutes the Thru

SELECTING PARTS

CTRL 3 Selects the Bass

CTRL 4 Selects the Piano

CTRL 5 Selects the Drums

CTRL 6 Selects the Guitar

CTRL 7 Selects the Soloist

CTRL 8 Selects the Strings

CTRL 9 Selects the Melody

CTRL 0 Selects the Thru

Thanks for your advice on the muting problem. I can live with it now that I know that it is not a fault, but I wonder why they instigate this change. Seems the old "right click" was as good as it gets. Anywhere I playing music. Thanks again.

Shift Right-Click mutes the old way, without the pull down. And as mentioned, hotkeys work too.
We made right click into a menu, with various options that apply to the current instrument.

Have Fun!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
