State Lines The lyric is from a jazzy tune we posted 10 years ago. Family and friends were appalled as it was a radical departure from our decades of bluegrass; however, it was well received here which encouraged our journey to blues and Americana. This jammy (polite for longish ) “slow burn” blues rock, featuring PeterF, retains only the lyric (on SoundCloud) from the original. Listens are appreciated as are comments. Thanks for your time and thanks to our music partner PeterF and PG Music. Another great blues tune you are known for. Great guitar work, vocals and mix . . . a nice slow burn indeed.

It didn't seem long. Wow Peter n Janice have the right tone in spades. The outro reminded me, a little, of the lead on Ball n Chain by Big Brother & The Holding Company. Super mix. LOVED it.

The intro proves that the blues ain't nothing but an excuse for a guitar solo. Then the guitar properly steps aside and lets Janice take the stage. Tuning on the kick drum? I'd heard it done on the snare, but not really thought of it as something on the kick. Interesting! The production has all the earmarks of a Bud production: uncluttered and clean. And Janice wraps around the vocal with her usual finesse. Sounds great to me!

The whole kit should be in tune with itself or the song or both. Most drummer don't BUT it makes an huge difference - particularly if the skins aren't covered in tea towels.

Tuning on the kick drum? I'd heard it done on the snare, but not really thought of it as something on the kick. Interesting! Drummers don't care, but any sound engineer worth his money will make sure the drums are properly tuned before the session. But back to the actual song: I love it! Very smooth and pleasant blues, with tasteful guitar playing, a voice that could sing the New York phone book and still gives me goosebumps, and an arrangement and mix that puts everything in the right place. I'm no blues expert by any means, but to me this is pretty much perfect. Great work by all involved!

Hey guys...super mix of some serious blues...a usual stellar performance by Janice and Peter...the back and forth of the vocal and ax are quite a combo...Peter's tone is impeccable and his licks are very cool...sultry and bluesy in a well crafted package!

Hi Janice & Bud and Peter,
nice guitar playing. The sound is perfect to fit Janice's voice. It's relaxing and intimate. In short, it's the blues that I love. Well done.

J&B&Peter, I've run out of adjectives describing how good you are! Super guitar, as usual. Super vocal, as usual. Super mix, as usual. This is better than most songs at Alligator Records. You know that I love the blues so you know that I love this one!
Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up. Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Thanks Ray. That is appreciated indeed. And yeah now that you’ve mentioned it there is similarity there. I (Bud) wore out that vinyl when it was released. J&B

Janice,Bud & Peter, Wow, that intro guitar sizzles...and then Janice delivers a wonderful simmering vocal. Beautifully clean, clear production; this is top shelf!

Thanks for the nice review for mentioning the mix. Regarding the drums the drummers I (Bud) knew back in 60’s would frequently tune the kick, snare and toms but I was clueless as to the significance at the time. J&B

Perfect 8 AM Monday morning music, let’s start the week off right. That guitar is the cream in the coffee. Good stuff.

This song should get the Blues Music Award in Song Of the Year, Guitar and Vocals categories, at least I would vote this way if I could! Peter's guitar and Janice's vocals are phenomenal. And when the chord progression is so enjoyable and the lyrical landscape is drawing the bold lines of pain elegantly and heartbreakingly at the same time, the end result is a classic blues song which should be included on any best of blues collection, especially when the mix is flawless. Janne (who has written a song called Every Day I Hate The Blues )

Peter's opening guitar (sooo good) sets the tone. I like the walk down at the end of the later solo.
Sultry bluesy vocal is tops.
Mix sounds perfect to me.
And we have another winner...

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
