I've had this on a couple or more songs, but can't presently see why. They've come from other people.
I'm trying to change the slow the tempo to practice the sone, but within a few notes it's back to full speed. I can't see a temp message in the MIDI. i can see a red line on bar one, saying there's a setting there, but when I open via F5, I can't see anything being set. However, if I click [Reset Bar], the red line goes away and I can control the tempo.
This particular song is supposed to be cut-time, but is showing 4/4, which is OK, but when it plays the chords lags the melody by a few eighth notes. After the [Reset Bar], the song plays at around 2/3 of the speed it previously was and the melody notes and the chords appear to be sensibly on time.

If the song Musocity posted is your song, Gordon, I do see what you see, and I can't explain it.
You said there is a red line on bar 1. True. You said F5 doesn't show any alteration. True. You said you slowed it down on bar 1, but how did you do that? The main tempo in the window above is 180 as soon as the song starts playing, correct? But then when you stop the song, it's 160. That's strange. And the song duration of 3:27 immediately changes to 3:03 to reflect the faster tempo. I think I wouldn't describe this as 'speeding up' so much as an immediate change of tempo from 160 to 180.
Nothing in the song memo gives a clue.
I don't think the style is overriding anything, because the default tempo of that old style is 140.
If no one else spots a cause of the mistake here, I recommend you freeze the song and email it to support@pgmusic.com and reference this thread.

**** Band-in-a-Box Report of Changes in the song at any bar ****** Song Title is: Flight To Jordan, File Name is D:\Downloads\Flight To Jordan.MGU [mar., 21 mars 2023 08:57:12] Bar 1: Chorus #1,Tempo Change = 180
"Slowed down" was just setting the tempo to a lower value. I think the proper tempo is 180, but I couldn't cope with that and changed the headline tempo to 160, 140, 120. It soon became clear none of thoswe were working.
Moultipass,
That clearly shows there is an embedded tempo change, but it doesn't show in the F5 dialog for bar 1 (and bar 17 which is just a repeat).
I wasn't aware if the F5 Report ... RTFM shows me [Print Summary] on the F5 dialog. Very useful ... I'll definitely use that in future!
The tempo change in bars 1 and 17 not showing in the dialog appears to me to be a bug. ... arcane perhaps, but not a bug.
Thanks all.
Edit: I notice that the F5 dialog shows bar 1 with a star, so it also is aware that there's something on that bar, but does not show it.

I seem to recall that there's something about putting <F5> changes at bar 1 that BiaB doesn't like. I think it expects that bar 1 is the song 'reference standard' and <F5> changes don't apply at that bar - at least, not all of them.

I don't know if there's any benefit to doing so, but my habit if I make a change in tempo at Bar 1 is to set the base Master Tempo to match the changed tempo.
Charlie, Ah ... that's obviously what I've misunderstood and why the bars 1 and 17 tempo settings are hidden, setting it to "Chorus #1", which is starred, shows the 180 tempos on bars 1 and 17 as you indicate.
Quirk not bug then.
Resolved.
Thanks again all.

Yikes. That's obscure. Thanks to all for explaining this.
With the benefit of hindsight it perhaps isn't an obscure as it initially appears. I've used the numbered choruses to turn soloists on and off, but I hadn't really registered that things were 'hidden' in the dialog, though again with hindsight (the best tool we have!) it's reasonable. Some indication of chorus-specific actions would be nice, but perhaps that would also add unwanted clutter.
I shall definitely remember that [Print Summary]!

I see your point. Of course, when you know it's there, it's easier to find again. I had looked in the F5 summary and didn't see the critical clue. I never thought to look in the print summary.
Aside, if I may: Every so often, there is a movement here to create a 'BIAB Lite' option, where many of the controls are hidden to make the program more accessible and not overwhelming to new users. However, I think this case is an argument against doing that. I don't want to be protected against myself. I want to see all the options, because it might just be that I need the 'obscure' one. Sorry to wander from your thread, but I think that topic is still undecided.

The obvious one with "BiaB Lite" is that I obtained this song from someone else and the 180s were already embedded within it, despite the tempo 160 both on the top-bar and in the notes. If the 'lite' version had hidden/blocked that further I'd have been quite frustrated.
The fact that embedding things in this way isn't exactly intuitive doesn't help.
It does underline that BiaB is complex and would almost certainly benefit from a rationalisation, but that's not exactly easy to manage when things have grown rather organically over time.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
