When trying to fit a Style or RealTrack to a song, I often go through quite a lot of candidates before I choose one. At present, I end up writing their names on paper to make my shortlist prior to my final selection.
It seems to me that it might be nice if the styles and realtracks pickers had a 'shortlist' checkbox for this against each entry, perhaps sortable or filterable. Obviously it would also need a dedicated "clear shortlist" option, too.

Great idea as this would help me tremendously.
A BIG +1
Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up. Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

I think this could be good.
Just trying to understand:
You would review a style or RealTrack and flag it to your Favorites (Shortlist) When selecting another style or RealTrak, your flagged Favorites would be clearly marked, and could be sorted upon You could remove a style or RealTrack from your Favorites
Something like that?

Yes, something like that. I avoided the word "favourites" to avoid clashes with the other favourites options.
Checkboxes for candidates for this song, intended to be a short-term option just whilst filtering and playing with this song. Yes: check, uncheck, clear-all.

ah but it already does have the ability to {somewhat} shortlist
Try Select Favourite Style, Shift-F9 from this Favourite Style dialog you can also reach Recently Played Styles note the SAve Set and LOad set buttons lower left
After I search for a style for a song, I trim the Recent list with the Delete and Save the Set in the same folder as the Song.
Now I have my Styles shortlist right beside the Song for reference.
Beyond what we have today this Favourite Styles management could be made more effective with some more Copy/paste/Arrange function

That may be helpful, though it will remember everything I've tried, including the ones I've rejected. It does, though, also have mode-up, move-down and delete. Frustratingly it's also one of the many modal dialogs, so one can't just move it aside. Now ... how to remember shift-F9.

I also took extensive notes when I auditioned for RT. This is because the design of the RT dialog is not well classified. I think at the very least there should be a music category, an instrument category. Instead of putting 3000 + RTS in a dialog box for everyone to view with a mouse. A lot of clicking, experimenting, wasting a lot of time.

RrR Yes, this is there & I've used it on occasion. But it has one MAJOR functional flaw -- it merely contains the PG in-house code name for the Style or the RT, w/ no other info. I've actually taken mammoth amounts of time, copied the code to a text doc, went to Style Picker to find it, copied all its genre, instrs, feel, time, etc. data to my text doc & saved it there. Well, yeah, that didn't last long... We need more info there. So, say I input a new tune. Before I go to the full Styles / Browse list, I think of going to my "short list" (yes, I like that better than 'favorites' as there seems to be many uses of 'favorites' in this software). However -- I'm looking at a list of code names, nothing else. Codes for styles I've used over the last year, since the last upgrade. Blink. Blink. There may be forty codes there. Or more. I may recognize 1 or 2 by repeated usage. 1 or 2 may be discernible by their code names. But (just like most drug brand names) most code names bear no coherent connection to what it is, how it feels or what instrs are in it. So, I once again close out of the easy option & go back to the Main Style Picker w/ Browse yet again to start from scratch... Adding usable information in the Favorite Styles or Favorite RTs dialog would be a godsend & make that fully usable again... E.J.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
