Well, we just finished the second annual,Herbfest at Kill Branch Farm in NC.
What a great time of comraderery and getting to know the people we see online.
Those that made it.
Steve Billy David Charlie Pat Eddie Herb & Kim
Also Lilly Mesha Chunk Piper
Music, food, and a fire in the fireplace at the edge of the woods with great conversation. The steak was absolutely delicious and tender. The dogs and the goats and chickens helped clean up the scarce leftovers.
No one got arrested, ran naked through the woods to my knowledge, or lost in the woods. And the dogs got along great, well, except Lilly. She wanted to pick fights with chunk and piper so she had to watch from inside.
All had a great time.
I got a few pics uploaded. Hopefully the participants will pop in once they recover and post more photos.
To those planning on coming but couldn't get here due to circumstances..... We missed you guys. But the chances are good that we'll be planning for Herbfest Three later this year.

You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.com Add nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both.
The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.
Windows 10 (64bit) M-Audio Fast Track Pro, Band in a Box 2024, Cubase 13, Cakewalk and far too many VST plugins that I probably don't need or will ever use
I really enjoyed the day with the forum friends who were there. Many thanks to Herb and his wife Kim for hosting the event. If we ever do that again, I vote for any music time to be acoustic. We spent more time setting up and tearing down than we spent playing!
For me, the highlights of the day were: the people, of course... and their stories... and the food... and the dogs... and the setting. Herb's acreage is my idea of utopia. He's living the dream, and I was happy to share the dream for a day.
The music was fun too, of course... that's the common denominator among all of the participants. Bit it wouldn't have broken my heart to spend the entire day picking everyone's brain. The day ended before I was done getting to know the people.
Now we wait til Herbfest 3...
edit: after looking at the pictures Herb posted, I'm wondering how Charlie avoided the camera (He's a sneaky one!) Maybe Steve's videos and/or photos will include some Charlie Fogle footage (fingers crossed)
I finally made it home! A lot of rain on that drive back too. We all really had a lot of fun and I do have a lot of pics/drone video to compile before I can share it. Stay tuned!

I just grabbed a still frame from one of the rough drone captures on my cell. It's Charlie's good side.

BIAB & RB2024 Win.(Audiophile), Sonar Platinum, Cakewalk by Bandlab, Izotope Prod.Bundle, Roland RD-1000, Synthogy Ivory, Kontakt, Focusrite 18i20, KetronSD2, NS40M Monitors, Pioneer Active Monitors, AKG K271 Studio H'phones
Herb's dog Mesha, Eddie's dog Chunk, and my dog Piper all got to play at Herbfest. I think Chunk and Mesha had the best playtime together. Eddie had to leave before dark so by the time it was campfire time, Mesha and Piper crashed out hard in front of the fire.
Also, got a better still of Charlie. He moves pretty fast so it's hard to capture him. I enjoyed his company as the sound/video crew.
Thanks to Kim for the cup of coffee that got me back to town and all the hospitality from both Herb and Kim. You got to like a guy that has a tractor and a sawmill in his backyard!
We all had a good time. There is nothing better than live and in color! The dogs were very happy there and the goats were standing at the gate watching everything. It is green for real in North Carolina and Herb has a wonderful place to call home.
The music was fun and everyone did their part.
All of us who were there have been around on the forum for a good while and have some idea about each other from the posts. I am sure we all went away with a much better understanding of each other. In these days of social isolation that is nice to experience.
Here is hoping we will all be alive and well for a next year get together.
Billy

New location, new environment, new music coming soon
Seize the moo-ment If you feel like you’ve herd all these cow puns before, you probably have deja-moo
Yep, Eddie was the one who was the chief instigator and protagonist in getting this going this year....and actually last year as well.... it all started with a road trip...
So we learned a few things....
Time really flies by when you are having fun. The day just doesn't seem to have enough time to get everything done that you really wanted to do.
It's probably a better idea to plan for limited electric equipment and technology for next year. Tuning up a couple of acoustic guitars is way quicker than laptops, PA's, keyboards and internet and bluetooth connections.
Expand it to a Sunday morning hangout for those interested or who want to camp, or return from the motel before heading home. Pat and I had a nice chat time over a cup of coffee before he headed down the road.
We have the rest of this year to ponder the possibilities before we start planning for next year.

Agreed Herb.... simplify on my side too. No need for all that gear to record when I can simply put my cell phone on a tripod and record in 4K. Lessons Learned!
I get that. Back in our gigging days being in a traditional bluegrass band we needed nothing but our instruments for festivals and a very light sound system with a couple of mics for clubs. However carrying around my bass fiddle was like moving a couch each time
Yes, the second annual, Herbfest at Herb's great acreage in NC is over but left some fun memories in its wake. I had a great time and really enjoyed meeting the new faces there this year as well as catching up with the friends from last year. Already looking forward to next year. Thanks to Herb and Kim for their gracious hosting.
Fantastic! I am ever so slightly jealous that I live so many miles away... I would have loved to be there

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows® Today!
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows for free with build 1111!
With this update, there's more control when saving images from the Print Preview window, we've added defaults to the MultiPicker for sorting and font size, updated printing options, updated RealTracks and other content, and addressed user-reported issues with the StylePicker, MIDI Soloists, key signature changes, and more!
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
