I'm trying to save an arrangement as a midi file.
There are at least 10 real tracks on it, most or all of which i understand to be midi capable output.

I complete the midi save in BIAB and generate a .mid file

I import the arrangement into Logic I get two midi tracks.

Both say steinway Grand.
One is about 2 bars long
The other is clearly the drum track. If I assign it to a drum vst it sounds right.
At a minimum clearly my midi mapping is off.

So, I'm wondering where all the other tracks are?

You might guess, I'm new at this.

If you save a file as MIDI all you will get are MIDI files but not Realtracks with MIDI charts. To save all as MIDI drag and drop the master to the DAW mode MIDI. Then drag and drop the DAW Mode MIDI to either your DAW or to your desktop. Some DAWs do not accept DAW MIDI files. This works on a PC so I hope it also applies to a MAC.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

A lot better.
I thank you MarioD

I have many more tracks in my DAW.
I think we making progress.

All told the drag & drop to logic created 34 Software Instrument Tracks from a BIAB arrangement of 11 tracks

Most all of them are named SteinwayGrand piano or Acoustic Guitar.
I have 6 Trombones (70 short of the requisite 76) labelled Melody
Drums do not appear to stems

I guess this all has to do with mapping.

I have 2 Steinway Grand Piano Tracks with only a bar or two in the track.

I'm sure I can clean it up manually. Can you think of anything I could do to make it a little more AutoMagic?

Again, thanks.

That is weird. I have never had that happen here.

Try a factory reset as that may solve the problem.

If that doesn't work look carefully at your BiaB song, your MIDI file setting, and at your BiaB DAW settings.

In your MIDI file settings look for the MIDI guitar and harmony settings. If both are checked and you have guitar and/or harmony tracks in your song the exported MIDI file will have 6 tracks for every guitar part and 4 tracks for every harmony part. Check your Logic tracks and if they only have one note per track then your given track may have been on an original BiaB guitar track. Again I'm on a PC so this may or may not be on the MAC's version of BiaB.

Let me know how you make out.

PS - for your song to be complete you need to add those other 70 trombone parts grin

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
