Tyrian Twilight

All-Acoustic Tracks, except the bass. Couldn't find an acoustic bass track that wasn't too "boomy".

I had no idea what to call this after I finished it. For whatever reason, I remembered a continuing education class I had to attend to keep my certification when I was still working. The name of the class was simply "Color Coordination." It was brought to our (the attendees') attention that Tyrian Purple was one of the rarest and most beautiful colors the human eye can see. It's also very, very expensive to purchase anything with the dye needed to create the color, as the dye can only be created using an excretion of some sort from a snail found only in several areas of the Mediterranean Sea. OK - class over!

Hope you might find the song almost as pretty as the color.

Song Summary – Tyrian Twilght

* I changed the original guitar backing tracks from those in the style to the ones in this piece, as listed below.
* I also added the BrushesPop8ths as secondary percussion (very soft in the mix).

Alan,

This is beautiful... I really like the track selections and the fiddle leading the way is just perfect. I love the arrangement - sophisticated with touches of Pop, Country and Jazz.

The bass sounds great and the inclusion of the brushes really anchors and rounds out the sound.

The song title really fits. smile

Thank you, Bob! As I was working on this, I kept saying, "Man, this is such a pretty sound." I'm delighted you think so, too. Thank you for the wonderful comments!

Again, thanks so much!

As beautiful as any Tyrian purple. Excellent use of the tracks. I agree with Bob that those brushes add just the perfect touch, and a boomy bass would be too much depth. The mix is just right (as Goldilocks would say). Guitars a re the perfect accompaniment.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Alan...you chose my favorite instruments for this lovely piece...fiddles and acoustic guitar (like bread and butter) the perfect combo to convey a soft acoustic texture and palate...pleasure to listen to!

Always surprising movements between your selected chords, nice adventure to places you cannot expect to see. Tyrian purple and the SoundCloud picture are strongly reflected in the mood, I hope you didn't pay too much for the dye wink. The acoustic arrangement is lovely, calming music.

Hey Marty ...

Thank you for those wonderful comments. This was somewhat of a challenging mix. Trying to balance the acoustic guitar tracks required multiple attempts and numerous trips to the Multitrack function, which is a fabulous tool. I still, think the right-side guitar could be just a tad louder. But, by design - for contrast - the tone is much brighter than the left-side track and could be annoying in a couple of places when adjusted louder.

Thanks again.

Alan

Good Afternoon, Dan ...

The acoustic guitars and soft fiddles are, also, among my very favorite tracks. Over the years, I've posted 7 or 8 Interlude pieces with just guitar and fiddle, for the most part.

I appreciate the kind words. Many thanks!

Alan

Hello Janne ...

Thank you very much for all the wonderful comments. I often enjoy playing around with atypical chord patterns/sequences. Often, as is the case with this song, I just make up the chords as I go.

I'm delighted you enjoyed your listen. Thanks for letting me know.

Alan

Alan,
Pretty and melancholic composition. Has an interesting artistic distinct / non-generic feel to it. Clear mix. A bit too much fiddle for my taste, but listens well. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Misha ...

Yeah, enjoying a fiddle is a variable factor across the listening spectrum. Glad you enjoyed it anyway! Take care!

Lovely piece...the slightly rough edge to the violin gives it extra texture and makes it cut through the mix even more.

Magical. Simply magical. Words cannot do this track justice - at least, none of the words that I'm capable to write, anyway. Took me somewhere else, somewhere over the rainbow where things are nice and people are good to one another. Thanks - NEEDED this, this morning.

Alan,

Wonderfully done! Calm and soothing, as I imagine a viewing of Tyrian purple would be in a lovely sunset. Production is top-notch . . . like others I think the brushes were a perfect choice here, which along with the bass and that warm fiddle carry this super song. If I had one nit, it's at the one minute mark and 3:08 mark on the stops. I find in BIAB for whatever reason the guitars sound a bit louder and harsher on the stop . . . like they strum that one note extra hard. So my suggestion would be to lower the sound on those guitars just a tad to soften the stop . . . if that makes sense. Real minor and most likely a subjective nit, but offering for what it's worth. Excellent work on this!

All my best,

Deej

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
