Mario asked for this thread, and I would also like to hear from others about how you use Toontracks stuff with BIAB.

While auditing the new EZKeys software, I came across this boogie track.

https://soundcloud.com/planobilly/toontracks-1?si=d919cf61654b450da711b6cb7d0aa573&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing

The first four measures are EZKeys 2 only. The following 12 bars are EZKeys2 with an upright bass line, and the last 12 bars have the keyboard bass removed.

The upright bass sound is from Trillian, but EZBass also has an upright bass plugin.

Any of the midi tracks in BIAB can be played with this software.
The drum track is Superior Drummer, which is a Toontracks product.

Same track with a new instrument called Retro Pianet that came with EZKeys2

Just so you have something to compare this to, here is a live recording of the piano player who played with my band in LA.

Cool tunes! And a heck of a piano player on the third track, posted 10 years ago. How time flies!

Les jours passèrent très vite et la conclusion arriva, il fallait échanger afin d'évaluer notre rencontre. For you who don't speak French, a rough translation of the above. "Time flies and the days passed very quickly."

LOL, the recording may have been posted to SoundCloud 10 years ago, but the recording could be twenty years old!

There is far less piano material in EZKeys than in BIAB, but I think it is an excellent add-on to BIAB.

I am still learning how to use EZBass. I have had Trilian for a while, and it is a good bass VST. Here is what exists and what it costs.

What is the best VST for bass sound?

The 5 Best Paid Bass VSTs
Spectrasonics Trilian [$299] Trilian by Spectrasonics is an award-winning, complete solution for virtual bass in your DAW. ...

IK Multimedia MODO Bass 2 [$299] ...

Toontrack EZbass [$179] ...

Waves Bass Slapper [$79] ...

Native Instruments Scarbee Rickenbacker [$99] ... ( somehow I got this one for free)

SubMission Audio Bass VST Packs [$89 – $139]

There are many ways to change the sound of bass lines that come from BIAB, but EZBass is pretty easy to use.

Billy,
good tracks. Of course live player is a live player and sounds best.

I will play along.
Here is a bed for a tune I am working on. Combination of BIAB Bass, Guitar, EZkeys1+V2 MIDI routed to internal (EZkeys) and external synths Drums programmed in Groove Agent + NI Studio drummer.
Still work in progress.

Cool Track.

This has a feel that reminded me of music I have listened to in the street in Europe. Accordion in France, and more string instruments style of music in Italy.
An accordion is a portable piano of sorts, I guess. I have very limited experience in Eastern Europe.

I am unfamiliar with Groove Agent but have the other software you mentioned.

What would be super cool is for some of us (Dan, for one) to do a Zoom chat to look at how all this stuff is being put together in a DAW. It is not always easy for me to understand the best ways to integrate all these different software packages. I have not had the time to get too deep into EZKeys2 yet.

On another note, I would be very interested to hear more about where you grew up and what life generally was like.

I can send you my cell and email via PM if you like. I also have WhatsApp, which is free to talk.

Billy,
Thanks!
Groove Agent is a pretty complex multi drum VST module from Steinberg (Yamaha). I was tempted to get it for long time. Since I had Studio drummer and NI Abbey road drums it was kind of a hard decision. A deep sale came up that I could not resist smile Main bait for me was fantastically sampled Percussion / Hand drum module. One of the best ones I have seen. No regrets. I think you can get a free trial...

"It is not always easy for me to understand the best ways to integrate all these different software packages."

Unfortunately plugin is not up to specs yet. So... The best way I found BIAB->DAW integration of sampled phrase libraries (such as Session guitarist series), Arpeggiator based synthesizers and Midi groove transformers such as EZkeys is through means of Chord Track. In most 3rd party VSTs mentioned above you can control playback complexity and nuances through their own engines. Meaning, you feed it triads + 7ths (through Chord Track) and you can get pretty cool stuff coming out of them. Plus you can always change something in a Chord Track to make better fit.

Midi chord track can be:
A) Exported grouped with all other MIDI tracks from BIAB (Save song as MIDI file). "Chord track" will be on a separate track of that MIDI file.
B)Generating a chord track on any blank BIAB track dragging it out to DAW.

rustyspoon,

Nice track.

Bass sounds good
was the bass midi or real track?
if midi, did you adjust it in BIAB/DAW.
if midi, what sound module did you use.

mrgeeze,
Thanks.
Bass and Guitar are Real Tracks. All others are synths/MIDI.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
