I watched the video and set it up as suggested but nothing has helped. It just crackles and stutters and the program more or less freezes. I have to close it down using task manager. I'm really lost here. I don't know why this is happening. I have no midi devices attached. I just want to playback the chord chart I've entered into the program.
I can't see how I can attach a screen shot of my settings.
This is a long shot, but try Options > Return to Factory Settings.
Do you have any other programs running on the computer, especially anything else like a DAW or something that might be CPU intensive?
Can you start Task Manager (right-click on the Toolbar) and see what other programs are running? To do this: Select More Details, then the Processes Tab, then click on the CPU column to sort by what's using the most processing power of your computer.
BIAB & RB2024 Win.(Audiophile), Sonar Platinum, Cakewalk by Bandlab, Izotope Prod.Bundle, Roland RD-1000, Synthogy Ivory, Kontakt, Focusrite 18i20, KetronSD2, NS40M Monitors, Pioneer Active Monitors, AKG K271 Studio H'phones
Drop-outs or stuttering playback with RealTracks, it could be caused by running an older build of the program under certain conditions. So you should check to make sure you have the latest patch update installed from here: http://www.pgmusic.com/support_windowsupdates.htm
Garbled or stuttering playback could also be a system resource issue. You may be able to completely fix the problem by turning off accelerated RealTracks generation. This is done in the RealTracks Settings dialog (Control+click on the RealTracks toolbar button and uncheck "Speed up generation of RealTracks". If your playback is only "garbled" during the first few bars, that is an indication that this will fix it. The downside is that RealTracks will now take longer to generate.
So.... It looks like you are running this on a laptop using the Wavetable synth and MME drivers. In my experience, based on working with helping people for years, that is the problem. The wavetable synth and MME. Not exactly the best combination of hardware and drivers for the job.
You should consider buying a dedicated external interface such as M-audio, Presonus, or Focusrite Scarlett and use ASIO.
The symptoms you describe are par for the course with the setup you're currently using. Plainly stated, the built in sound card in most computers is not designed to work with the requirements demanded by the software we use. It's designed to play MP3s and sound from videos and games. With multi track audio and midi and synths all doing their thing and trying to get it to the speakers in sync..... well, you need the proper tool for the job.
Some folks have successfully used ASIO4ALL (A4A) but I've never been able to get that to work. Not even once on any computer I have owned. Ever.
With a proper interface, such as the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, the laptop will be perfectly fine and give you the results you are expecting. No more clicks, pops, dropouts, and out of sync tracks.
All that said... you might be able to play with the buffers and latency settings to get it to run halfway smoothly. I have a few laptops and they are the same way as yours however, when I plug in the USB interface..... it's perfectly fine.
You've invested money in good software.... If you want to do this the right way, invest in some hardware to make it all work like it's supposed to work.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows® Today!
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows for free with build 1111!
With this update, there's more control when saving images from the Print Preview window, we've added defaults to the MultiPicker for sorting and font size, updated printing options, updated RealTracks and other content, and addressed user-reported issues with the StylePicker, MIDI Soloists, key signature changes, and more!
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
