Hello BIABers!! Thanks so much for the nice comments on Missing You Tonight......much, much appreciated!!! I always read all of your thoughtful comments and get a lot out of them, but since I'm not on the forum as much as I'd like, I don't get much of a chance to respond. This is a song written for someone like Old Blue Eyes. I don't know why I write songs for someone who has been gone for 30 years or so, but I just love the older style. Anyway, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. Take care all! Greg The band Bass. 732 Drums. Jazz drums Terry ClaRK brushes Strings. Abbey Road one from Spitfire Piano. cannot figure this out but used BIAB midi and played through Komplete Grandeur piano https://youtu.be/N-l3i8BucI4Your Summer Smile Oh your summer smile How it warmed my heart Now I live in Exile A ghost ship drifting now that we’re apart No direction home Guess I finally learned The meaning of alone Oh, those lovely eyes A sight I’d never seen Such a sweet surprise The way they sparkled when you looked at me Now, it feels more like a dream Now I’m wide awake And now the world seems So lonely There’s only Regret and misery A hole inside that time can never fill I’m broken You’ve spoken The words I’ve always feared And emptiness is all that I can feel Oh those winter nights So dark and cold When I turn out the lights I think about the times when I had you to hold Comfort of your touch Now I have memories But sometimes they hurt so much So lonely….

Greg...this is mellow to the nth degree...your vocal is like velvet and the arrangement with the sax lead is so tasteful and though 'old blue eyes' could have done a masterful job with this Johnny Mathis is who I would love to hear do it...but that's just me...really a great listen and a stellar production all round...Dan

Greg,
You have the ability to create songs that sound like they could be part of the "Standards" songbook. Just beautiful...
Great vocal and an excellent mix.
I can hear this song being sung by Sinatra, Haymes, Bennett, etc.
Amazing stuff!

Oh, so glad to hear you sing again, Greg. Love this one, and I second Bob's comment about you writing songs that should become standards. You have the magic, brother. Wow, excellent choice of sax solos. Just perfect, like the whole mix.

Perfect summer song, hazily wistful, but still the arrangement is warm. The sax solo is always perfect fit for the ballad like this. The strings sound lovely. And of course there's the perfect voice that carries through the pain and comfort of memories.

What a gorgeous Strings opening!! Era-appropriate and classic! And that Bass is Sweet!! An amazing write. So natural, so "easy", SO RIGHT. Every word. Pro. (like ALL your songs) An AMAZING vocal. You should be famous. A beautiful Mix.
"So lonely There’s only Regret and misery A hole inside that time can never fill I’m broken You’ve spoken The words I’ve always feared And emptiness is all that I can feel"
SO RIGHT.
You should be selling millions.

This may have been written for someone like "old blue eye" but Greg, you did an absolutely fantastic job on this.
Great smooth vocal.
The perfect backing band, especially the sax and strings.
Loved it.

Greg ...
I always know that when I click onto one of your new posts, I'm going to hear some of the prettiest and smoothest music anywhere. Definitely no exception here.
If you sang the label on the back of a cheap frozen dinner, it would sound like the sweetest music one could ever want to hear.
Just keep writing how you feel the music ... don't even think about worrying if it's a multi-decades-ago-sounding tune - that was some of the best music ever written. It's fantastic artists like you who keep the "modern" audience aware of how great that music was/is. except, you make it sound even better.
Wishing you and yours nothing but the very best.
Alan

Gorgeous song and recording Greg - really really well done!! Might I make a constructive comment - could the strings feed in & out in different parts of the song, for variety?? We're both lovers of nice strings - I just feel the lovely song/singing/recording deserves the variety?? Super smooth Greg!
Thank you for posting, best Carl

That is a good song and very age appropriate for the time frame you referenced.
The instruments and the vocal are so very well done.
Nicely done.
I'm going to have to figure out how to do piano in that manner. I have some very nice piano samples and would love to use then this way.

I don't know much about these 'old' genres, but this is just beautiful. I love the lyrics, I love your vocals, I love the arrangement and the mix... this sounds 'professional' in every way! Very well done!

There's some sibilance but it's appropriate for the level of intimacy the song suggests...resulting in a lovely vocal performance & capture. Cool arrangement and playing through out though I though the last piano bit, the wah wah wah, was a bit out of place given the gentle sprinkling that had come before. A few solitary notes might have been a better choice for my ears BUT I'm neither old enough to have listened to him on the wireless nor Sinatra fan enough, (as in not at all), to be accurate about music/time & place.

Really beautiful! Great prosody and the vocals and melodic structure of each verse (e.g., the extra measure in line 4 of each stanza) is really a cool, unexpected treasure. Lyrically, I am a huge fan with the exception of the second verse where "Now" is used in three successive lines.
Now, it feels more like a dream Now I’m wide awake And now the world seems
I'm guessing you can lose one or two of them with a simple re-write. Just my thoughts. Regardless, this is an amazingly well-written, produced, and sung project. Na zdrowie!

Greg,
Classic is so many ways . . . such a smooth vocal, brilliant write. Such an American standard feel to this . . . simply wonderful in all respects. Outstanding!
My best to you,

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
