Just wanted to touch base. It has been over 2 weeks since EZKeys 2 launched.

From my perspective it is a massive success, being all that was claimed and more. I follow the ToonTracks forum closely and for the most part no emergency patches are needed that I have seen. Just comments folks who don't know how it all works.

I have not yet had a dedicated project working with it. But I am encourged by the playing around I have done with it. For example, I was working in EZk2 "Song Writing Scales" for a class I am taking and found the ability to generate a chord sequence based on modal and alternate scales. Very much like Scaler. crazy

Here is something which is neat. We often assume that midi could be routed in and out of any VSTi, but that is simply not true. Most VSTi's only send Audio out, not the midi. So here is a new feature in EZKeys which permits routing midi-out from EZKey2 to the midi-in of any other VSTi. Way Cool. grin

Any one else have any comments or experiences on this topic?

Thanx Dan, that will help me tremendously!

Have you heard any work on when we can bring in our user groove files?

I have version 2 but haven't had a lot of time to play with it yet, really busy with yard work and watching hockey at night! There is an update but I haven't had time to install it yet.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

Hey Dan and Mario,

Oh and HOLY SMOKES...you can do the same trick using EZ Drummer 3! I just verified it also sends MIDI out and I just spent the past hour auditioning EZ Drummer 3 patterns in Battery 4, Massive X, Butch Vig Drums and Empire Breaks!!!! It produces some amazing percussion sounds! I also tried using the Kontakt drums and, while they work, they are just regular drums and not nearly as good sounding as EZD3. But this technique opens up a whole 'nother path for percussion!

JJJ, I feel and share your excitement. grin

I spent an hour and a half yesterday watching Shawn at Shotties give a combined EZKey2, EZBass and EZD3 demo walkthrough. There has certainly been a disruption in the Force with the accellerating capablities of these and other virtual instruments.

In fact, today I threw together a short 32 bars with the Three Toontracks along with Session Guitar's Mint all backing me on guitar.

I'm anxiously awaiting a sale on EZ Bass!

Just a quick comment. Do your home work on this one. Can you access the EZBass forum in ToonTrack? I think you have to be an owner to get in which should be a red flag. crazy

While EZD3 and now EZK2 are best in class, EZB has some notable flaws in sound and features which many are waiting for fixes in next gen EZB2. Apparently creating a bass is more difficult than keys and drums. This is why EZB was the latest "new" product for Toontracks and why there is no EZGuitar. I do however, really like their upright bass sound! grin

I am looking forward to trying out the new Kontakt Prime Bass?

I have had EZBass for a long time. It is not great. It will be interesting to see what the next iteration will sound like.

Part of the answer is Trillian, but it is pricy at $279.

What is needed is an excellent set of midi bass patterns. What exists in EZBass is pretty generic.

Even with Superior Drummer matching a bass line with the drum line is difficult.

My ability to play live bass is from a guitar player's perspective. The same thing happens if I play the bass line on the piano.

The most challenging thing I have ever had to try to deal with is the drummer and, to a lesser extent, the bass player.

Some styles of music are slightly less drum and bass dependent. A super strong vocal can distract the listener enough to disregard the bass and drums to a point. But...

Drums and Bass are absolutely critical to a good song. If you don't got a bottom, you don't got a band!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
