I think that is a caveat with satellite. There are extra steps involved in connecting to the internet. The signal has to go up, over, back down to a tower and then to an internet server (and return the same way). DSL uses fiber optics to connect to internet servers after going through a few wired switches, and cable does the same without the added steps of satellite.

There's no internet in the sky (yet), It's all down here... If it seems 'fast' otherwise it is because of good bandwidth; once the connection is made large amounts of data can stream, but for 'realtime' streaming the added steps become more noticable. Also I bet satellite waves aren't quite as fast as light.
Plus if you are up where I think you are, I bet there are a couple relay towers involved.

If you are up in black river, I admire your choice. Very pretty up there.
I built a house for a guy on one of the lakes up there - north of town. You probably saw the crane sticking up through the trees a few years back. The crane I ordered broke down so they sent their brand new one with 300 ft boom. It was HUGE. I went to town to pick something up, and when I started driving back I could see the boom sticking up way above the trees. It looked hilarious to me since it was a small 32' house we were setting, and required only about 10% of that crane's ability. They were worried about scratching the paint on their new crane, trying to get it parked in the trees inside an area I had set up for a crane half that size.

A few locals came out to see what was going on.

I use Magic Jack. It's really great. Only thing is it requires DSL and a computer. Sometimes after the computer's been on for a few days it sounds garbled. No problem. I just re-boot the computer and all is well for a few more days. I bought 5 years worth of service. Usually Magic Jack is $20 a year but, once you install it, they'll offer you a 5 year service for $10 a year. It's great for dealing long distance. I think I can even call Canada with it no charge. If you want to call someone in India it's 5¢ a minute. Not a bad deal.

Great product. I have 3 busy inbound call lines at my business, regular land lines not on Majik Jack. I connected one Majik Jack to one of our computers, plugged in an additional set of 3 wireless phones the one Majik Jack. The main "Majik Jack" phone base is connected to the Majik Jack at computer station #3. The other 2 wireless phones are a stations 1 and 2. We use the Majik Jack to make outbound calls so we do not tie up our incoming call lines that our customers call in on. Of course we can only use one Majik Jack connected phone at a time because they are all on one Majik Jack. Just like you would do at home if you were to buy a set of 3 cordless phones and run them off of on wall jack. Reduced my phone bill/s by around $25 - $40 per month. I believe I got the 2 year plan and will gladly renew when due.
Caveats are not difficult to deal with.
A. Clear you cookies and cache to prevent garbling sounds when you computer runs low on memory which has only happened once since we maintain our computers regularly.
B. Drag the Majik Jack window to the far bottom right corner where it is barely visible (mostly off the screen) so when it pops up each and every time you use it it is out of the way and not bothersome.
C. Can't use it for a fax machine but so what.
I can't think of any other issues or complaints and been using it every work day for well over a year now.
Bought a second one for the house a few months ago. We'll use call farwarding from our main business land line and forward it to the home Majik Jack so my wife can take calls at home and not have to be at our business. This leaves her cell phone available for personal calls without interupting business.
Like I said, Great little gadget. My dad told me about it and had been using it for over a year himself without issues.

Does the noise in your head bother me ?

Thanks to all for replying. No problems so far with it. I've hooked it up to another computer because I like my main one to sleep when I'm not using it. And if I compared it to a land line, the land line wins.

And on the lighter side, I don't care what you discuss, be it religion, sex, clothes, dirt, toothpicks, politics, etc. There is going to be someone who likes it and someone who don't.

Black River's getting repaved this summer. This has brought neighbors out to watch the action ... and half of them I didn't even know lived here! Oh man, you should have seen 'em when the post office got built! You'd think we were on the Moon for goodness sake!

And now PC's, fiber optic, high-speed Internet? Oh forget it! Folks here go to the grocery store once every six weeks! I'm guess'n nobody told 'em they could come out after the first snow stopped!

I played a bit of guitar around the backyard fire pit over the holiday ... Started out just me, my wife and the dog ... Next thing I know I've got at least a dozen neighbors over to see what all the commotion is all about!

I'll check with my brother to see whether he has Skype or Vonage. He is in Japan, but kept a San Diego number, so we can talk as if we were on domestic cell phones--no charge beyond the monthly fee for either of us. Whichever it is, quality is quite good

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
