Lyrics:
The wind comes off the water
When you're living by the sea
And there can be no other
Place I'd rather be

dreaming of my island
Laying in the sand
Taking in the shade of a tiki
With a cold drink in my hand

Been a long hot summer
Hurricanes a bummer
No fish on the line
In the lightning and the thunder

And when the storm clouds blow away
The sailors moon will help to find the way
Port of call
Atlantic Holiday

I've always been a sailor
A cowboy on the sea
I'd lasso the equator
Set all the mermaids free

Chasing the horizon
Sailing round the world
Daylights a wasting
Let's get the nets unfurled

Been a long hot summer
Hurricanes a bummer
No fish on the line
In the lightning and the thunder

And when the storm clouds blow away
The sailors moon will help to find the way
Port of call
Atlantic Holiday

Maybe I've been doing things all wrong
And maybe I'm right where I belong

Been a long hot summer
Hurricanes a bummer
No fish on the line
In the lightning and the thunder

And when the storm clouds blow away
The sailors moon will help to find the way
Port of call
Atlantic Holiday

This is a great song. Very cool melody and an excellent vocal. Love the arrangement and mix as well.

There is a Chris Réa side. He's an English songwriter that I love so it's the same for your song.

Thanks. You are not the first to mention Chris Rea in comments about my songs. It isn’t intentional but I am flattered by the comparison. I’ve always loved “Fool If You Think It’s Over”. Thanks for taking the time to listen and for the kind comment.

Jim, you've really nailed the Floridian toes-in-the-sand vibe. Nice song, and really nice vocals. The harmonies are fantastic, too. Lived in Ponte Vedra Beach for many years, and this song makes me miss it a lot!

Thanks for the kind words. I’m in Ormond Beach. I’ve been here my whole life so a lot of my songs have that beach feel. I love Ponte Vedra. I golf there a lot.

Hi, Jim.

You must be new here. (Sorry, I couldn't resist). laugh

Good write, well sung, cool harmonies, pleasant arrangement.

Your narrator sings "Maybe I'm just doing things all wrong" but that's not the case with this song! Easy listening goodness!

Welcome!

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Thanks! Definitely new here and still stumbling around in the dark. The “bridge” lyrics wrote themselves organically. I really was just learning how to navigate in BIAB and I was thinking; “Maybe I’m just doing things all wrong”.

Welcome to the forum, JIm. Man, as soon as those harmonies came out I was in all the way. Fun summer sounding song. A well-crafted song with a catchy lyric, and I like how you presented it with a good mix and a lot of musical interest. Under your name it says Newbie, but, man, you're not new to creating good music. When sailors get homesick it's often for the open waters, and I bet that shrimper will be back.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thank you for the kind comment and for taking the time to listen. I’m still feeling my way around BIAB but I can tell I’m only scratching the surface of what can be done. I’m looking forward to listening to your tunes.

When I hear "Florida" and "shrimp", I always think of Shrimpboat Sound, Jimmy Buffett's Key West studio. There is a little of Jimmy's spirit in this one!! Really well done in every way!!! Sometimes the BG vocals may be a bit too loud. Otherwise, everything sounds just right to me!!! LOVE IT!! Take care. Greg

Hi Jim,

First song by you I've heard and it's excellent. Nice light and shade throughout the song, good backing and excellent vocals.

Only one small suggestion - the backing vocal Oooo's may be a touch loud especially in the opening verse where there is sparce instrumentation and they compete with your lead vocals.

Look forward to hearing more of your work.

Best Regards
Nigel

Jim, this sounds great. Darn good vocal and harmonies. I like your arrangement and instrumentation--the way you weave in the different part, quite seamlessly.
