According to PG people, BIAB styles can be set in a folder called STYLES. That's what I did. But, in this case, when you create an hybrid style, you can't select a style via stylepicker. BIAB says ' ***.STY does not exit.Cannot use'. In this case, you to manually browser in all your styles, and it's very tiedous. The proposal is to include this option (all styles in STYLES folder) in Preferences. In this case, BIAB will know, for hybrid stylemaker, to fetch the requested styles in STYLES folder.

Use the User Styles to put them into the User Styles folder, that's what it was put there for.

Although it would be nice if we were able to organize styles in any fashion we want, that User Styles in the Stylepicker was what we got in response to this wishlist item. Still, it is a lot easier than what we had to do before its inception, which involved a rather tedious editing of a txt file...

Mac,
I don't speak about user styles. I just want to make a hybrid style using PG styles, not user styles. These PG styles are in STYLES folder. In the other hand, I don't use Stylepicker editor, because all my own styles are sorted in my own categories, along with all the PG styles. (bbw.lst manually edited). So when I need a style, for ex. a country ballad, I can see all the country ballads styles I have, no need to go into another categorie, etc...

Which version of BIAB are you using. The new version picks up new (even non-BIAB styles) when you rebuild the list. Did you rebuild your list? (I think you'll need BIAB2008 or higher for this to work). It will put styles that aren't already found in the BBW.LST file or any of the *.LS3 files you may have into a category called "Other Styles".

Also, the "Styles" folder must be located in the BIAB main folder (e.g., C:\BIAB\Styles). It can't be just anywhere on your hard drive. For a style to appear in the styles list, it must be located either in the main BIAB folder (C:\BIAB) and/or the Styles sub-folder (C:\BIAB\Styles).

Also, even though it won't show up in the Styles picklist, just so you know, when you load a BIAB song, it first looks for the style in the same folder as the song. So, if you have a song-specific style you are using, if you have the style file it is using in the same folder as the song, BIAB will find it (if the style isn't there, then it looks in the main BIAB folder and then it looks in the Styles sub-folder.

Hope that made sense.

jford,
I use BIAB 2008.5 Build263. The problem is not this one you invoked. I get all my styles in the stylepicker and that 's OK. The question is about making hybrid styles. It seems that, since we can now put all our styles (PG styles +user styles) in one folder called 'STYLES' in C:\Program files\BB for ex., when you are looking for styles in Hybrid styles window, you can't acces them because, by default the styles are considered to be in BB folder and not in STYLES folder. Hope it's clearer.

Suggestion:

Use the stylemaker itself to hybridize a style. You will then have standard windows dialogs for "open" and "save as" - ie. can navigate to folder of choice. AND, as a bonus, you have more powerful features than with "make a hybrid style." cf. Stylemaker=> ALT-F3, because you'll be able to move any instrument into any any other (overwrite or add).

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
