All too often, especially with guitars, it would sound MUCH more musical and natural if the sustained sound of a “Hold” would carry over into the next bar to some (adjustable) degree.

Holds are recorded over 4 bars, a Hold will stop where the next chord is entered so if you enter the next chord on the 5th bar it should ring out over 4 bars. If you look in the RealTrack folder for the Holds folder and drop one in your DAW set to 80bpm you will see how they work. Also if you go into Tracks View and enable the Riff Edit button you can adjust the length of the Hold and right click it to adjust volume.

Holds are recorded over 4 bars, a Hold will stop where the next chord is entered so if you enter the next chord on the 5th bar it should ring out over 4 bars As an addendum to that, the chord that makes the hold end can be a rest, which means it won't play, but it will still end the hold for you.
Jazz relative beginner, starting at a much older age than was helpful. AVL:MXE Linux; Windows 11 BIAB2025 Audiophile, a bunch of other software. Kawai MP6, Ui24R, Focusrite Saffire Pro40 and Scarletts .

B.D. Thomas, First of all +1
I get exactly what you are requested. While in short term you want to prolong hold or even overlap to next bar, I am guessing it's a bit more than that. To "humanize" space. Not sure what exact musical term it falls under... A very slight pause between one bar and another, but less than a beat, which in your case would prolong the hold. I think it's called "breath mark" (luftpause or comma) in notation. B.D., Am I on the right path? If not, please let me know, I will do a new request.

The sustain should not end at the end of the “Hold” bar, but should continue into the next one. Overlap.

Not sure what you mean but I will show you in the DAW as you can see it better than in Biab Riff Edit. Do you want the strum to sustain into the next bar where playing starts ? As you can see if I extend the Hold you will see the shots in the source file also. You can also start the Hold earlier or later, but only in the DAW you can change it to a quick strum or Slow strum by changing the playback rate of the item. ![[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]](https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=download&Number=30166&filename=Reaper-BB-Holds-2.gif)

I think that looks like what I want It would be handy to have a setting in the Alt+F5 dialog (“Extend hold time by ... ticks”) that allows you to configure a hold time that survives chord and song changes.

It should be easy enough to have a decay length/fade option if they add fades in the riff edit, it could automatically add this from whatever you have it set to. I did this in the DAW, when I generate up a drum track it will decay the the cymbal hits over a few bars into the next section: ![[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]](https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=download&Number=30172&filename=ReaTrak-Drum-Decay2.gif)
