An interesting article.
Certainly Elton is playing live, and perhaps there are added effects as have been discussed in the video. I have seen him many times in concert. Yes, the Yamaha Grand that I have seen him use is unique.

My favorite piano sound of his was the Bösendorfer he used on the Madman Across the Water album belonging to Trident Studios in London.
According to a tech I know in Las Vegas, there is a bit of "secret sauce" in the live sound but now as much as people think.
