instead of that horrible vertical shopping list thing. To find the key you have to read from top to bottom, it's annoying.
Pro musicians transpose music through the circle of fifths, it's been like that for hundreds of years, because it works. That's what the circle of fifths was created for.

by the way, the 'transpose by # semitones' is pretty ridiculous. Say you want to change from C key to Ab key, you don't go 'how many semitones? 1, 2, 3, 4.....'. Who changes key like that, probably children. You simply know that the Ab key has four flats that aren't found in the key of C, end of story. That's what the circle of fifths shows very clearly, the DIFFERENCE between one key and another, in sharps, flats, and naturals. Not the number of semitones, these don't matter. Besides, it's a pain to think, ok up a fourth, how many semitones....1...2....3...4...5.... feels like counting beans.
So at least let's use intervals. Up or down a semitone it's ok, but from then on should be intervals: major second, minor third, etc. Let's use basic music theory instead of reinventing the wheel over and over.

Interesting idea.
If this were implemented, I would like it to be as an option you could select, so I could leave mine as it is. Sure, I know key signatures and the cycle of fifths, but I believe, after spending thirty years on the two forums here, that a majority of BIAB users do not.
All I usually want to do is find the key up or down a little that falls into the right range for my instrument or voice. Other very modern software I have, such as Song Master Pro, just says Pitch and you click on + or - to pitch-shift up or down by half steps. The ‘vertical shopping list thing’ in BIAB is better than that, because it tells you the key as you ascend or descend the chromatic scale.

Determining the key a song is in, is not cut and dry. It can be one of the harder problems drawing on interpretation of music theory, and even then can spawn arguments. Many composers have started just putting their scores in the key of C regardless of how many accidentals.
This I know: BIAB functions better if you set the correct key signature first.

just to clarify: I write my suggestions for PG Music, and then they are free to implement them or not. I don't really care what others think, nor I am starting debates. I don't even read the replies. I believe I have more than enough musical experience to be able to see for myself what's good and what's not, I don't need opinions. Just saying. You can reply all you want, if that's what you like, but I am not reading anything here, because if I did I'd have the additional task to counter arguments I have probably already deliberated about in the past. I have no time or interest for that.
I am simply writing suggestions to PG Music. What they do with them it's up to them, if they choose to follow them at all.
